My daughter received a Leapster for her 5th birthday. Pet Pals was her first game and she played it non-stop. I wasn’t sure it was challenging enough to hold her attention, but it really did. Maybe because she just loves dogs so much & we don’t have one! She loves cleaning and grooming the dog of her choice and competing in the dog show.

Our daughter, almost 4, received Pet Pals as gift. She and her brother have several other cartridges but this is perhaps the best so far. She has a lot of fun with it. Pet Pals is also very intuitive and gives very good prompts. I highly recommend this as a nice addition to a small child’s leapster collection.

5 Stars Fantastic!
Santa and Grandma together got this for my son, who is almost 6. He can’t put it down!! He loves his Digi and “Fists of Foam” is his favourite by far. It’s great for kids who are fairly new to the hand-held game world. It didn’t take long for him to get the feel of it, and he’s really into learning the math areas. I love that the game rewards him and gives him the chance to find the right answer rather than only give him once chance! I am a huge fan of the Digi and a long time fan of LeapFrog. If you want to limit the exposure to all those kill em and blood & gut games with no value, but want the gaming experience-please get one of these for your kid. It’s perfect for 5-9 year olds. I was worried that I would have to sit there and read out directions and questions the entire time, but I was happy to see that the game reads out questions and ofers “hints”.

Daughter sticks to this game better than any other. She has gone further in this game levels wise as well, and we had to download all the lessons so far for it as a result. If we had one game for her on the Didj, this is the one.

My daughter loves Spongebob, therefore she loves this game. I have to help her with the little math that is in the game because she’s in kindergarten, but other than that the game is easy enough for her to play alone. I wish there was more math in the game but as long as she loves the game that’s what’s important. Also I wasn’t sure what to expect in the quality of the graphics and to my and my boyfriend’s surprise (who happens to play a lot of video games) the graphics were very good especially for the price we paid.

Santa brought my son a Didj along with the Spongebob and Indiana Jones games. He has logged significantly more hours on the Indiana Jones game as well as a new one – Clone Wars. Even though Sponge Bob is his favorite TV show, the game doesn’t appear to be as engaging as the other two.

5 Stars Excellent educational game
My 7 year old son is in love with the Didj my dad got him, and he only had the Jetpack Heroes that was included. So, I decided to add to his repertoire. After all, I know the Leapster wasn’t much without the cartridges and the included games weren’t ever nearly as fun as the ones we bought.

I was a little concerned that the Star Wars game would have the same math concepts he worked on in Jetpack Heroes, but it is different. Instead of addition, subtraction, multiplication, my son gets to work on fractions, place value and geometry.

I tried it myself and there is enough math to keep my son thinking. He gets a to be a jedi with a light saber who goes around a maze of hallways killing bad guys and while trying to survive. He has to stop once in awhile and answer questions like which pie chart shows 1/10 colored in or what number in 693 is in the hundreds place or how many sides does a pentagon have.

For those worried about violence, it is cartoon violence against robots and there is no blood. I’d say it`s about as violent as Tom and Jerry, except the robots die (disappear). That may not be enough for some, but at least you know what you are getting into.

My son loved his Leapster, but he said he’s not going back. Didj is much better. He likes being able to customize the game. I like being able to track his progress and help choose what concepts he’s working on.

5 Stars Fun and Challenging
My 7 yo son wanted to play this game on his DiDJ so he saved and finally bought it. When it arrived, he desperately open the box and inserted the cartridge in the game console. A few minutes later he was enjoying , making noices and having fun. The questions provided in this game were something new for him so this keep him excited and inmerse in the game.

I asked hime the next day about some of the questions the game showed up and he was able to retain knowledge. That’s nice! He’s on advance math class

4 Stars Good game
I got this game with Sonic for my 6 year old’s Didj and although he plays sonic more, he loves this one. This one is a little more difficult so I like that it challenges him more but I don’t like the math question options as much. It still is teaching him so it’s not all bad, just not my favorite. He still likes to play it even after having it for months and I can go on the computer and choose what questions it asks him to try to keep it at his level.

My son got the Diji for Christmas this year from Santa and he literally didn’t put it down for three days. With the after X-mas sales I got him this game. Along with other parents I worried that it may be too old for him (he is 6) and might be too much of a challenge with the math skills. No, he did just fine. He only asked me for a little bit of help, and thanks to his sister-who got online and spent some of his “credits” he has new challenges and new stuff for all of his games. Way to go Diji, keep the cool games coming and this will stick around for a long time.

3 Stars The legs are not detachable
Don’t be fooled! You can use this on the floor or up on its legs. But once you put the legs on they do not come off. I contacted LeapFrog and they said they are modifying the packaging to indicate this. I had planned to return it but with the legs on it would require a large box and was just more of a hassle than I bargained for. So I kept it but was sorely disappointed. Had I known this I would have bought something else, or at least waited until my grandbaby was able to stand before I put the legs on. Either way, I can’t remove them. A search of the net resulted in some directions on how to remove the legs but I felt like I was going to break them.

5 Stars It gets used everyday
This table has less annoying music than many, and my 11 month old daughter goes over to it at least once an hour and pushes buttons to make music. Two and 3 year old children seem fascinated with this also, and the ability to take the legs off and use a a toy for little crawlers make me glad that in a our low-toy household, we have this toy. We bought it used and find it in great shape.

3 Stars BEWARE of unstable legs
This table is fun, but buyer beware regarding the legs on this toy! First, many of the pics of this item are NOT of this item! The table with the wide feet and blue lights around the center is an older item which is no longer made (I tried the older version at a friend’s house and loved it). The wide feet provided a wonderfully stable base for this toy. However, the new version (with red lights) has unstable legs which are prone to tipping on your child. The legs are also NOT detachable on all units. I was told by Leap Frog that the only way to know whether they are detachable is to unbox the toy and look on the bottom of the item for a “press here” indicator where the legs attach. Seriously?? I’m not sure of a store that is going to allow me to open all the items to find the one with detachable legs! That said, I have the one with the NON-detachable legs and mistakenly attached them BEFORE my child was able to stand independently. Any attempts to use this toy to pull to stand result in this toy tipping onto my child. UGH! So, this toy requires VERY close supervision (as in my holding onto my child while he plays with it in order to avoid him pulling it over onto himself). Other than that, the noises are a bit annoying with a very jazzy lady belting out sounds and songs, so I typically leave it in the OFF position. Why oh why can’t toy makers make SIMPLE cause and effect toys with short bursts of sounds rather than these long, annoying, never-ending songs and sounds? Oh, how I miss the simpler times!

My son loves this toy. He has had it for over a year now. I am really surprised how long the batteries last in this unit. A nice feature is that the legs are removable. This allows the music table to be placed on the floor or a tabletop, or to easily be stored away for future use.

It seems like a great toy, and it is very durable, but my daughter wants nothing to do with it. It has just sat in the play room since she was 1 year old.

1 Star This toy is not built well.
When I first got this piano, the thing that bothered me was that the notes at the top of the keys is just a sheet of paper, barely glued on. I didn’t know it was like this till a one-year old started picking at it, when I discovered it’s only tacked by glue at either end. So, with a paintbrush, I glued it in and there it stayed. Then today, the whole thing fell apart when my tweenage son picked it up to move it. Keys, panels and everything just fell apart when it was picked up – it’s as if the glue gave out. It’s just not made well. It’s glued together with pegs. Melissa and Doug, you’ve disappointed me. I paid full-price for this item, and didn’t mind because of the M&D brand name and thought we’d have it for years. We’ve had it for less than 6 months. I see it is now about 22 dollars less…

1 Star Defective
The item was received well packaged in Amazon’s usual overkill packaging. It took me 30 minutes just to get it out. Then, disappointment when my niece and nephew opened it up on their birthday only to find that 2/3 of the keyboard doesn’t work. I don’t think it was damaged in shipping, the piano otherwise looks perfect. I suspect it is either defective or poorly made such that something shook loose in the shipping. Am waiting for a replacement but I am wondering how long it will last given some of the reviews here about durability. I’ve seen other Melissa and Doug toys and they seem more sturdily made.

I bought this for my 16 month old son for Christmas. He really likes it and plays on it often. He cannot follow the instruction guide, obviously, but I imagine he’ll enjoy it even more as he gets older. Be forewarned, however, that it is more a table top piano, not one that a child would stand behind or sit on a chair to play.

My little girl is having lots of fun with the Tag books and Miss Spider’s is one of her favorites. Of course, she can count to twelve and she knows most of the words but reading practice is precious and she’s always happy when she manages to read the text so that it actually rhymes – she’s into painting and poetry these days.

As a Tag book, there are lots of interactive surprises on every page and there are a couple of big intensive play areas at the end. And, did I mention that the illustrations are absolutely gorgeous?

Can’t go wrong with this little book. For the 4-6 years olds. MUST have the Leapfrog Tag system or 80% of the fun is lost.

5 Stars Excellent
Our children (ages 3 and 4) love watching and singing along with this DVD. But even better, the cute stories have really motivated my 4 year old to read the books on her own. In a very short time we have seen a significant improvement in her reading thanks to this set. The little skits in between the songs/books on the DVD do a great job teaching vowel sounds. I highly recommend this set for any pre or beginning reader. It is a great educational product that the kids actually enjoy.

5 Stars Educational, fun and love the tunes!
I love LeapFrog! They come up with the most entertaining educational stuff! I have a two year old and four year old and they both equally love it! My daughter is really getting into reading and sounding words out, so this is perfect! Both my children and I love the tunes, it’s surprisingly entertaining for Mom too! I also really like the segments that go over phonics and sounding out words that were covered in the song/stories.

I think this system works best if you watch the DVD first, and read the books together later; as the speed of some of the songs/reading is quite fast for even me to keep up with (to follow along and actually go over w/ your child). I think it’s a great addition to the LeapFrog library of toys and videos. Hope the review helps!

I was a little hesitant to make this purchase, but I found it about half off at a local discount store and decided to give it a try. As described, it includes 12 short phonics based (with a FEW sight words(is, the, on, and, in, the, etc.))readers. There are 2 books for each vowel sound, an introductory book that introduces the characters, and a cumulative book wraps up the set. They’re a good quality paper, stitched bindings. I see some reviewers are watching the dvd and then tackling the books, and whatever works is great. We are reading the books first, and then as a reward, she’s “unlocked” (as her brothers do on Wii Fit) the corresponding video. Each of the 12 are listed on the menu, so we play only the ones she’s “unlocked”. She loves the music and dances around the living room. I agree it would be difficult to sit down to read with the books and dvd together. If it helps anyone, we’re about halfway through the yellow (kindergarten) Hooked on Phonics book, and this is right on target – sight words from cards we’re using, and she can sound out all of the words, but the video afterward adds an extra motivator.

My 4 year old loves to watch the DVD and it helps him learn how to blend letters into words. The books are wonderful because most of the words are simple words that he can sound out and there are not too many words per page. It is a great way to work on reading skills.

I love this product. I was looking for simple books that use only words that have the most common letter sounds. words that once your child learns the phonetic abc’s, they can start sounding out words. we loved the leapfrog letter and word factory and wanted to utilize what our child had learned from it. but even the most simple books out there (that I found) used more advanced letter sounds and combinations. this product has 12 books that use words that can be sounded out from the basic 26 letter sounds, with the exception of maybe 2 words. that in itself is great. then add to that, that they have a dvd and songs that go along with it. the words light up on the screen as they are being said. and there are tiny skits regarding the short vowel sounds also. very educational. yet, fun and nice simple but entertaining funny animation. some kids’ videos annoy me, but this one is fun. not as beautiful as say, word world. more simple, but just great. the songs are great. very short, very simple, but perfect for what they are trying to achieve. my only complaint would be that since it is a leap frog product, it would have been nice for them to use the same letter animation themes regarding why “I” says “i”, etc… and also buyers should be aware that the 12 books are tiny paper pamplets. oh, and they use lower case letters. but regardless, I am so happy that I found this product.

4 Stars Fun for all ages
We got this as a Christmas present for our daughter (when she was 4 months old). We set it up on her high chair to keep her entertained while we made her food. It took her a week or so to figure out that she has to spin the middle part and now she loves this being a part of her routine. She only plays with it for a couple of minutes while the food is being warmed/prepared so it doesn’t reach the annoying level – but I can see how it could. I do have to say that I’ve never heard an x-ray fish, but I don’t think it’s sound is bzzzz. Other than that, I think this is a great toy to teach even younger kids dexterity and older kids about the alphabet and different animals (regardless or how silly the sounds may be). My daughter actually gets a kick out of it when I try to imitate the crazy sounds!

This is a very sturdy and educational toy. My one yr old would repeatedly drop it but it’s still in great shape. I love the feel of the product overall…it feels firm not flimsy. This toy automatically turns itself off when not in use and you have two different volume controls. My 4 yr old also tries to take it and play with it . The music is fun and engaging….my 1 yr old dances to it:) too cute… All in all I love this…I bought for my 1 yr old for her birthday.

I appreciate that the volume isn’t too loud in the low setting (a real problem in too many toys)… the variety is good: the music, animal sounds and letter settings are all different. Note that the animal sounds are a bit exxagerated… they had to find an animal with “X”, so they say “X-Ray Fish” (not even sure that’s a real fish!) and of course the sound is made up.

A good buy, since “spinning” is a pretty interesting concept to have a baby figure out.

4 Stars Would give 5 if not for the battery
Arrived shiny new and cute. This little thing is decent and its double alarm function is well worth the money! Ajustable clock digit illumination just adds to its perfect design. I actually use the default(brightest) and it’s far from “too bright” at all. FM sound quality fairly acceptable, even “mono” mode for every station (due to a solo speaker).

The backup battery fails to keep the time on its arrival, which is the only reason for not giving the 5th star. Battery changed and it rocks!

All in all, Dream Machine, literally.

It’s a dual time set alarm clock with radio. You can set your snooze times and have an extra alarm to wake you if needed. For the money, you won’t find better any where local, unless you work at Sony.

3 Stars Not bad for the price
I recently bought this to replace one that always lost the time if there was a power outage. Even new backup batteries did not help.

Pros: Small, nice radio reception, time is already set, keeps time in case of power outage

Cons: You have to re-activate the alarm daily after turning it off in the morning. Not a good thing!

Setting the alarm with the button on the side requires two hands.

Overall not a bad alarm clock though (if you remember to activate the alarm again ).

2 Stars Nice but very quiet alarm
The radio works great as do the dual alarms. Everything works as you’d expect and makes common sense.

The only disappointment is that the alarm is very soft. There’s a high/low switch, but the difference between the 2 levels is almost imperceptible.

Other than the alarm it’s a nice clock radio.
