User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Quality magnetic letters
My 2 year old loves these colorful letters. He is past the stage of putting things in his mouth, so we haven’t had the issue that some other reviewers have had with the paper coming off. They stick very well and are of a good size. I highly recommend these over the ones I had as a kid–cheap, lightweight plastic letters with a tiny magnet in the back that popped out and didn’t properly hold the letters the right side up.

5 Stars Grandma Loves M&D Magnetic Wooden Alphabet
My sister takes care of her two grandsons often. At 2 and 3 years of age she had used the magnetic alphabet to teach the boys to spell their names.

The little goobers can recognize and spell their names. Bravo!

4 Stars D&M alphabet
Our 17th month loves these. However, he still is at age of placing objects in his mouth. The color on some letters is beginning to wear due to wetness. Size is good for his some hands. Definitely recommend.

1 Star THESE CONTAIN LEAD in the Magnets!
I thought these were SO COOL, then I had them tested at a local free lead testing for kids toys and they came back POSITIVE. Further research at Healthytoys dot org showed that the magnets contain a MEDIUM level of LEAD!!!. If you child is extra careful not to touch the magnet parts then I guess these are fine, but if your child is like mine and likes to touch the entire thing and then put his fingers in his mouth, these are too dangerous.

Healthytoys dot org lists lots of toys as both safe and unsafe, according to brand. It’s good to be careful these days.

2 Stars Not what I expected
It would have been nice to have been informed that these pieces are only a few inches long. I assumed by looking at the photos that these were about twice the size, so I was disappointed. My children only played with them once for a little bit and haven’t touched them ever since.

5 Stars My kids love it!!
Just received in the mail on Friday and my kids have not stopped playing with the puzzle. They are 3 & 5.

5 Stars Another Great Melissa & Doug Product
We love Melissa & Doug products in our household and this one does not disappoint. My daughter already knows her letters so this is a great toy for helping her learn to spell & read. It’s also great for lower case letter recognition, since we often see upper case letters in toys. I keep the letters in a baggie so that we don’t lose any.

5 Stars Fun + Focused Learning
My 5yr old son loves this game. He is learning to spell and able to focus while doing so. The pictures and tactile letters help. It has provided hours of entertainment. Just don’t let your dog chew on the pieces! The colored paper can come off the tops of the letters from being chewed on.

I highly recommend this game!

4 Stars Good product
The letters seem ok (they don’t seem super durable) and the boards are very colorful. I was missing one of the alphabets and called Melissa & DOug who promised to send the missing alphabet over but havent done so yet.

My 3 year old seems to enjoy playing with it- I am mainly going to use it to familiarize him with the small letters since he has already mastered the capital letters.

5 Stars FUN!
I purchased this for my 2 1/2 yr old nephew and he loves it! His mom is helping him learn the letters (a few of which he already knew).

I am very pleased with the product.

5 Stars GREAT WINTER GIFT FOR INDOOR ENTERTAINMENT
I PURCHASED THIS BEAD SET FOR MY GOD DAUGHTER WHO LIVES IN ALASKA AND ALWAYS NEEDS TO FIND SOMETHING TO DO INDOORS. SHE IS 8 YRS OLD AND JUST LOVED MAKING THINGS SHE COULD WEAR TO SCHOOL AS WELL AS GIVE TO HER FRIENDS.

5 Stars Days of fun
My daughter loved making “jewelry” with this set. Also, my autistic son enjoyed the set and it really helped him work his fine motor skills. This has lots of pieces so I recommend supervision otherwise you could wind up with quite a mess if the set is dumped in the floor.

3 Stars Great set but no lid
I love Melissa and Doug products but like other reviewers I have NO clue why none of the beautiful wooden boxes come with lids. THis seems like a given for a beading set like this one. Virtually everything I have purchased of theirs simply overflows into the larger drawer it is stored in … so I, too, have begun to trash the wooden box and put everything in a craft organizer box. Would it be that difficult to include a lid with each toy?

5 Stars christmas suprise
my grandson loved it he is 3 and still knew how to use this toy. very fun .glad i purchased this product. always satisfied with thier toys. mary d. north carolina

4 Stars Cord not practical for little kids
The colorful beads are pretty, durable, and reuseable. However, the non-stretchy cord that comes in this set isn’t practical for kids. It is made of shoelace material, which could be hazerdous if a child made a necklace out of it and got caught up on something. It is too thick to break away. Otherwise, it is a nice set. My children will continue to play with the beads, but the not the cord.

5 Stars Great Learning Tool
This is a wonderful reading & learning product. I’d say that ages 3 and up would find this useful.

4 Stars great learning tool for pre-readers
Bright, colorful and educational. Surprisingly even 3-4yr olds can differentiate between d, b and p to make words. Definitely a fun puzzle but because of the limited word selection it’s probably more useful in a preschool scenario then at home where kids might tire of it too quickly.

5 Stars Learning Fun
My 3 year old is into spelling things and learning lowercase letters. (Has uppercase down.) What a perfect item. I bought it a while ago to save for when she was read/a rainy day. We recently took it out and it has been quite a hit. Even when we arent doing the puzzle, she is looking at and talking about the letters. My nephew has it too and he loves it. A great gift for interested kids.

5 Stars Its so great I bought another for my sons daycare
I bought this for my high functioning ASD son who is 3 1/2 yrs. He loved it so much I bought one for the University Day Care that he attends and the kids love it because several can play at once.

5 Stars Pictures=letters=pictures
My daughter really enjoys playing with this puzzle – it actively engages her ability to recognize pictures. We can sit together, find the pieces for the different letters, and as she finds them and says the word of whatever picture it is that she’s spelling, I can tell her which letters are which. Over time, she is recognizing more and more letters, how they come together (just from which ones will fit in which spaces) to form words, and learning how to spell.

I just wished it also came in capital letters, but otherwise, this is a great educational toy overall!
