2 Stars Poor quality
I just received this puzzle as a gift. Having another older-style Chunky puzzle, I am VERY disappointed in the quality. Instead of the designs being painted on, the front of the pieces are paper stickers and scratch off very easily. The old Chunky puzzles were much better quality and last longer. How disappointing that Melissa and Doug should make such poor quality puzzles!

5 Stars Preschooler & Toddler love this puzzle
Both of my boys (16 month old & 2 1/2 year old) enjoy this puzzle. Ours were painted all around though the back is a solid color paint. They enjoy playing with them as toys as well as a puzzle.

3 Stars Still good puzzle, but pieces only painted on the front
We have several of these chunky puzzles. This one came with only the front of the puzzle pieces painted. The older ones we have (insects, farm animals, sea creatures, pets) were all completely painted and are fun as free-standing figures,not just puzzle pieces. Otherwise, it’s a fun puzzle.

4 Stars Fun Toy for Toddlers Learning “Pretend”
I bought the Melissa & Doug Large Shapes Jumbo Puzzle as my kids first puzzle, and was pleased enough with Melissa & Doug to purchase this as a next step. My kids are 18-months-old, and they love to pretend with each little vehicle – waving the plane in the air, or making a “woo-woo!” sound for the fire engine. The “wells” that each piece fits into are fairly shallow, so my beginner puzzle-doers find it a little frustrating when the pieces slip out easily – but this is more a reflection of their puzzling skills than of the quality of the toy. I would definitely purchase more puzzles like this from Melissa and Doug.

Puzzle is well made & shouls stand up to a 2-3 yr olds abuse. Pictures are under pieces for greater matching and pieces are thick/easily handled.

5 Stars Great Quality Cube
This 4×4 cube is way better quality than my old one. The stickers on the old one peeled off soon after use and eventually broke. I have had no stickers peel and no broken pieces on this one. Keep in mind that all 4×4 cubes are stiff to move. But I sprayed silicon spray in it, and it moves beautifully now. If you are going to buy a 4×4 cube, I definitely recommend getting this one.

2 Stars Don’t bother…
With the resurgance of the Rubik’s cube over the past several years, it brought me back and with kids elementary and high school age I wanted to re-experience the fun of 25 years ago with the new generation so I purchased some Rubik’s brand cubes. 3×3, 4×4, 5×5 to share with my kids. They have been a lot of fun. The Rubik’s 3×3 is just as I remembered it. A bit stiff at first but with time (and a little silicon lubricant) it loosens up nicely. My 11 year old has already mastered that one! The 4×4 is a real disappointment though. Very sticky and jams up a lot, even with a liberal dose of silicon lubricant. Also, the 4×4 is very prone to popping cubies when you go too fast. Simply put, the Rubik’s brand 4×4 makes me tired. The Rubik’s 5×5 performs better. In my opinion, don’t waste your money on the Rubik’s brand 4×4. Instead, get a much better value from purchasing an Eastsheen 4×4.

2 Stars 4×4x4 Rubiks cube
The 4×4x4 Rubik’s cube is very hard to turn, locks up a lot, and pops a lot, too.

What am i saying ??

Well, it’s very hard to turn. If you would like to lubricate it with silicone it doesn’t make it any better.

It locks up a lot – meaning that it gets stuck. You cant turn the layer anymore. You have to twist back or twist other layers to get it back to work. This cube is NOT recommended for speed cubing.

It pops , A LOT. The piece come off all the time. I didn’t have one solve where one piece didn’t come off.

I recommend this cube for beginners. Those who never had any experience with a 4×4. But i do not recommend it to those who want to solve it fast or are annoyed by the lockups [ every second turn it locks up ] and pops [ it pops when you have a lockup and accidentally pushed too hard or you're turning the layers very fast ]

A very challenging activity for a slow TV night. My 12 year old grandson stayed with it for hours, and solved it.

5 Stars Great toy – keep them entertained for hours!
I was skeptical purchasing this cube for my son reading all the bad reviews. He’s a “speed cuber” with the 3×3 and we warned him contanstly that this cube was not for speed cubing. He heeded our warning and we have had NO issues with the cube.

It is NOT fallen apart.

The stickers have NOT fallen off or come loose.

It’s such a great toy – provides hours of entertainment, makes you think, doesn’t need batteries, makes no noise, has no flashing lights, and is portable.

This rubik’s cube is a pretty good buy. It’s different from a normal 5×5 rubik’s cube in that it is smaller, just barely bigger than a 3×3. However, it is somewhat easier to work with than a normal rubik’s cube. The pieces don’t fall off as easily (although at times you have to “undo” a turn in order to get a piece to pop back in place). I would recommend it to someone who is interested in getting a 5×5.

4 Stars Great toy. Not Durable
I was excited the moment this arrived at my house. The first thing with it I noticed was how loose all the pieces were. Everytime I turn it, it feels like it’s going to break. On the second day with it my friends little sister was mixing it up because well it’s colorful and children like color. As she was doing it one of the white inside pieces had started to pop out. I pushed it back in and everything has been fine since then. Aside from the durability it’s a great toy and will keep you occupied for quite a few hours.

5 Stars amazing quality!
This rubik’s cube is pretty durable..it really makes your brain think, figuring out algorithms is pretty hard.

It is what you expect, works great, and is original.

Only downside is that the cube uses stickers for the colors.

Cheaper priced than the winning moves brand one, hasbro/milton bradley is pretty well know brand compared to winning moves which is unknown brand.

3 Stars An extemely fun toy not well built!
This is a very fun toy, but unfortunately, the stickers aren’t very sturdy. The color first starts to fade. Then, slow, the corners of the colors start peeling off. Now i have a cube that looks like a hobo.

5 Stars Exactly as expected
This product arrived exactly as expected: complete and new-in-package. It arrived in a timely fashion and provides hours of entertainment. The solution guide in the box was not very helpful but you can download very good ones from the interweb. The cube arrived in the solved configuration which allowed me to experiment with it before I randomized it for the real challenge. Lots of fun; a great little puzzle.

4 Stars Good Value, Fun for Kids
I purchased this for my 4 year old after she was jealous of my 7 year old’s Hooked on Phonics program. This is a great program for little ones to learn the alphabet. She knows a few letters already, but not most of them. She looks forward to doing this program, and seems to be learning quickly.

She enjoys the computer game but it does get boring after a few letters – but she really enjoys the letter cards and we play alphabet ‘ go fish’ and alphabet ‘concentration’ again and again.

This is great for getting started with the alphabet recognition and letter sounds, is fun for her, and is easy for an adult to use with a child.

It’s not something that will engage them for long, but I think it makes good use of 15 minutes of your time.

5 Stars Great Head Start
My daughter turns three next month, and expressed an interest in reading, so we thought we’d give this program a try. I was worried about the cost at first, but it really is worth the money! She loves it, and asks excitedly to “play the ABC game” each morning. The videos are cute and playful, and the games are simple to learn. Because she’s on the young side, we do a bit more repetition than an older child might need, and tend to do lessons for short bursts throughout the day rather than in just one 20-minute session. Still, it’s such a minimal investment of our time for such big results. She’s been using the program for a week, and is already recognizing letters. I’d recommend this program to anyone.

5 Stars Look no further if you having nothing yet for reading readiness!
Basically this set was a compilation of various learning activities my son already had.

-Flash cards: upper- and lower-case, separately

-Picture cards: pictures of different things starting with the same letter, like bat, bell, bird, etc. I was annoyed that many of the cards in our set were doubles.

-Stickers

-A storybook with laminated pages (a small one which is similar to one of those paper books you get in Chick-fil-A kids’ meals)

-Workbooks – nice ones

-CDs

-Progress posters at different levels

I think this system is great – it’s everything you need to get started. I feel though that if you have the “guts” of this system already, like other preschool curriculum books/workbooks, age-appropriate picture books, flash cards, etc., then you won’t really need all of this again. If you don’t have anything else though, look no further!!

One thing I’d recommend doing is scanning the pages of the workbooks and printing out what you need in B&W. I keep several copies of each page on-hand in folders. I want to use this for my other two young children when they are old enough (yes I have two more under 2!), and didn’t want the books written in. Hope that helps!

I found the Parent’s Guide useful in planning lessons.

5 Stars If You are Willing to do the Work, You Will be Amazed
Based on all the hype, I had decided to buy a version of this several years back for my daughter, who (recently just finished 2nd grade). With work, and patience, and practice, she was ready to start the Kindergarten version before she turned 4. Then she finished that, and then the 1st grade levels before she even started Kindergarten! Long story short, she is now reading at 5th grade level.

Now, purchased again for my son – who is 3. Same as his sister, he is done with this and is now on the Kindergarten level – and is READING BOOKS!

Do the work, and be patient – your kids will amaze you and will have an excellent head start when they enter school.
