Smart Snacks Rainbow Color Cones

The eight brightly colored scoops encourage color identification, and stacking the ice cream on the cones promotes fine motor skills. To help preschoolers learn the colors, each scoop is clearly marked on the inside with the name of the color (blue, red, etc.). Scoops measure approximately 3″ x 2″ each.

5 Stars Great play ice cream
We needed some ice cream for the play food repertoire and looked at a number of different implementations — wood a la Melissa and Doug, Fleece, cheesy plastic, and these sturdy yet mildly flexible rubber ones. Ultimately I left it up to my 3 year old daughter who sat and deliberated over them on the store floor (”I can only get one, right?).

Initially I leaned toward the wooden ice cream since I’m a fan of wood toys. But this was a good choice — the ice cream looks realistic, has a pleasing texture, is nicely weighted, super durable (tossed all around), and richly colored (more so than the alternatives).

After the purchase we sat down in a pizza shop and took out the ice cream. Other small children there were standing on their seats vying for a look so we had a communal ice cream “tasting”.

Note that the balls of ice cream are hollow — like a shell — so that they can be stacked in a realistic way.

5 Stars Realistic, educational and FUN Ice Cream!
My daughter received this toy for Christmas when she was 2.5 years old. She absolutely LOVES her ice cream!

It comes with 8 different colors of ice cream – each color is labeled on the bottom in pretty big text. It also comes with 2 cones. You can stack as many or little ice creams on top of each other as you want!

They are very durable, realistic, and an absolutely wonderful toy. My daughter struggles a little in putting the first ice cream onto the cone.. its a little “tight” – but she’ll get the hang of if.

And, one thing to note – I do wish the ice creams would fit a little bit more snug on top of each other.. they just kinda sit on top of each other, so if you just tip the cone.. they fall off. My daughter doesnt seem to mind this, but I can see where a couple of kids may get irritated the ice cream doesnt stay on the others!

Overall, excellent toy. Highly recommended for any child – my daughter has mastered the colors a long a time ago.. and this just reinforces the different colors when she plays with this toy – wonderful educational and FUN toy!

5 Stars Love this toy!
I hesitated for a second before I bought this product because I thought that the price was too high. I feel differently now that I received it. It is made of thick, soft, durable material. It is a very fun and educational toy. My 6 year old and my 1 year old both really enjoy playing with it.

5 Stars Fun toy
My two-year-old daughter has loved this toy. It is very durable and very realistic. The only difficulty is with getting the first scoop on the cone. I have just instructed my daughter to leave those on and not take them off and that has solved the problem.

5 Stars So realistic, So much fun!!!
My 2 1/2 year old daughter LOVES these ice cream cones. She serves up multiple flavors daily! Plus every kid (multiple ages) that comes in to her play room, goes for these! There great on the cones or in bowls! Very durable, bright colors, great toy to play pretend with!

4 Stars Made by Leapfrog? Really?
It’s a hard case that protects the product. So different than all the other “Leapster” cases. Please make one for the Leapster!

5 Stars It’s been great for us
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1WN5PQRGNCCL8 It looks as though the case is hit or miss for people. Thankfully, for us it is a hit and we’ve had no problems whatsoever with it. My six year old son can easily open and close the case by himself and we’ve yet to have the case open on it’s own (about 5 weeks of use).

The case is a hard plastic, with a foam inside. My son only has two games right now, but they easily fit into the recessed areas within the case. True, if the Didj is not also in the case, the cartridges do move freely, but that hasn’t really been a problem for us as usually if the case is in motion, it’s because the Didj is inside and being transported. The Didj itself fits nicely inside, very snug. The clasping mechanism is purely a pressure one that “clicks”. Again, this has proven no problem whatsoever for us in being too hard or too easy to open/close. It just…works.

The case comes with a wrist strap to attach to the Didj by stringing it through existing holes on the controller. There is also a cutout area in the case itself that allows this strap to come out, and so be used while the Didj is inside the case, as well–a nice feature.

The size is very nice, as it is low profile enough to not be cumbersome. It fits the Didj and four games, nothing more, making it ideal protection for everyday, all the time use. We keep the car adapter and headphones in the car, next to my son’s seat, for times when he’ll need those items. He doesn’t need to carry them with him all the time and I didn’t want or need a case that would hold *everything*. I’m glad that this case holds exactly what it does.

Overall, the case is slick looking, well functioning, and easy to use. At least for us.

Update 2/18/09: my six year old wanted to show how easy his Didj case is to use. See attached vidio review.

1 Star Case is cool to look at, but doesn’t hold
We got 2 cases free with a promotion from a retailer. No wonder… they really aren’t that great. The DIDJ fits nicely enough, but the case unsnaps all too easily. I’d hate to risk damaging the electronics inside if the case were to fall out of small hands. We chose to use a small camera case instead.

2 Stars Don’t waster your money!!
I bought the case to go with the new Diji I bought my daughter for her birthay. The case is not made well and is very hard to open and close. You are better off finding something suitable on our own to store it in. It would be nice if a case came out that would store the games a well without being a piece of poor quality plastic. This was a disappointing purchase.

5 Stars Case works Well
I have not had any problems with the case flying open as other reviewers have noted. Initially it was a little tricky for my 8 year old son to use, but he has gotten the hang of it. The screen on the Didj is easily scratched, so a case and a screen protector are both good investments.

LeapFrog Leapster Carrying Case

April 26th, 2009

LeapFrog Leapster Carrying Case

This durable case is designed for toting the popular Leapster around on car trips, plane rides, or anywhere kids might travel. It holds up to six Leapster cartridges in a rear pouch and has room for the Leapster itself in the main zippered compartment, which sports a soft fleece lining. The case is relatively lightweight and doesn’t feature the hard shell that some might like for protecting the Leapster but the soft plastic covering should provide protection for most accidental knocking around. –Charlie Williams

3 Stars Good for leapster, but not for cartridges
I agree that this is a good case for protecting the Leapster. My four year old son has had this case for a year, and even when he has dropped it, the Leapster is fine.

My problem with the case is the pouch for cartridge storage. As other reviews stated, it is simply a small mesh pouch with a velcro flap over it. We have had cartridges fall out many times, and we have lost my son’s favorite game because of this.

If you are looking for a case to protect the leapster, this is fine, but if you want something to securely store the cartridges, you’ll want to look for something else.

5 Stars A MUST HAVE!!
I am not sure why so many are giving this case a bad review. We have had this case for my son’s leapster lmax for more than 2 years (since he was 3 years old) and it has held up really well! We have had no problems with the zipper or the outer pocket that holds the games. It protects his leapster well, even though some view it as “too soft”. I find it sturdy and durable for even the really young users. It has held 7 cartridges in the outer pocket and 1 left in the leapster fully zipped. He takes it everywhere! I have 3 children ages 1, 2 and 5 and they all use it. I am buying a second for my middle child – I just wish it came in pink. Don’t hesitate to buy!

5 Stars Great Leap Frog holder/saver
If you have the Leapster I totally recommend this product. Keeps it safe from drops and every day wear and tear. Also plenty of room for the games.

2 Stars A lunchbox works better
We looked carefully at these when buying cases for both our kids leapsters and decided on a simple lunchbox instead. It allows the kids to carry all their games, a spare set of batteries, the wall plug, AND their leapster all in one carrier. We’ve used this method for several months now and both kids (ages 3 and just 5) can open and close the cases easily. My son has the leapster game case, but we haven’t gotten my daughter one of those yet and she’s simply using an old walkman case to contain her games.

AND… if they ever get tired of their leapster the case can carry something else (even lunch).

3 Stars A bit overpriced.
I’m actually shocked at how much this costs (currently, anyway). I paid about half for this same case, and while it’s nothing special, it has definitely served it’s purpose.

A little more storage room would be nice. My son currently stores his Leapster, and about six games in this case. If you plan purchasing a lot of games, and storing them all together in one bag, I’d recommend simply buying a small children’s backpack for storage instead.
