Scrabble Crossword Game

Scrabble Crossword Game

After all these years, it’s still hard to get a triple word score, the tiles are still made of wood, and there’s only one “X” in the whole box. The game of Scrabble has sparked feuds and a near-cult following. All the fuss is over a spelling game that hasn’t had an upgrade in 50 years. It takes a little luck and a lot of skill to make high-scoring words out of seven little letters, sometimes with an overabundance of vowels and letters that don’t go together–sometimes there’s Q without U. Two to four players battle it out on the board, and while some players might be proud of impressive words (”I spelled gestalt!”), skilled players know how to use the premium letter and word squares on the 225-square board to their best advantage. This crossword game has strict rules (no names, no slang) and comes with a warning label: “Choose a dictionary first to avoid any ugly word disputes.” –Lynne Sampson

3 Stars Good set
Scrabble is a very popular game and there is very little that I can add as review on the game. However, this scrabble set is very nice. Would make an excellent gift set.

I would have liked :

1. More number of alphabet pieces.

2. The letters are on one side of the piece, they could have been punched on both side of the pieces.

3. A scoreboard to maintain the player scores.

5 Stars Classic!
It’s Scrabble! How can you go wrong?

This is the classic board, with simple racks and a flat board. Functional and inexpensive. The only real annoyance is that the tiles can get skewed/disorganized on the board while you’re playing since they don’t have the raised grooves that the deluxe boards do. Still, perfectly manageable.

5 Stars Challenging and Fun
I love this game but I wish I’d gotten the deluxe version with the plastic grid gameboard.

5 Stars A Classic You Just Can’t Beat
My wife and our friends have been huge Scrabble fans from way back. We were playing a lot of the Scrabble beta app on Facebook, but were getting tired of all the bugs. Plus, a good old-fashioned face to face game can’t be beat. This set hasn’t changed a bit from the version I played as a kid. This is the no frills version: the board doesn’t revolve lazy Susan style and the tile bag is just made of plastic. Other than that, the game materials are high quality. As for game play, if you happen to be that rare person who has never played Scrabble, it is a classic board game and a ton of fun. And yes, it is educational and encourages literacy.

5 Stars Its a classic!
I don’t think Scrabble needs a review, but just in case: this is a great game. I like it more as an adult. I grew bored with it as a child. And, being the youngest by many years, it was also a game I could never win. No fun! But I like it now!

Scrabble Junior Edition

Scrabble Junior Edition

If there’s any game out there that normally makes little kids feel left out, it’s Scrabble, the word game that’s usually played by adults and older kids. But Scrabble Junior is a great way to introduce young children to the game and get them interested in how words are formed. In the beginner game, specially developed for younger kids, players draw seven tiles from a pool, then work to match letters to the ones printed on the board. As they work through their tiles, they spell out the words, one letter at a time, and receive points for finishing each word. By the end of the game, they’ll have used over a hundred letters to work through a variety of different words. On the other side of the board there is a basic version of the classic Scrabble game with simple scoring rules. Once your children master the advanced game, you might be surprised to see that they’re ready to take you on in a match of the original Scrabble. Just be prepared to lose gracefully. –John Longenbaugh

5 Stars Educational Fun Game
This old standard is great fun for younger children in this jr. edition. My 6 yr. old grandson just loves it and plays it often.

2 Stars Scrabble Jr. Review
This game was disappointing. It needs to be more like the real adult version with double points, etc. It did not come with a holder for the letters, so we had to lay down our letters on the table and others could see them. Letters were made of medium thick cardboard! Overall, the game was just okay.

2 Stars Not really worth it!
Buy the real one instead. It’s cheaply constructed and really limited on the “Junior” side.

4 Stars Our almost 3 y.o. son loves this game
Our almost 3 year old son loves this game and asks to play it multiple times every day. He’s fascinated with letters and has recently started reading. I thought this game would be a fun way for him to learn a few words. He has already learned all the preprinted words on the board. He has also learned how to take turns and follow the game rules. The only shortcomings that I see are:

1) the cardboard letters and board, which are not very durable or cleanable

2) there should be some alternate pre-printed game boards avaliable to keep the interest level up for a longer time

4 Stars Good for an age range of children playing together
Our whole family could play this game together, which is rare. The 3yr old could place tiles for us on the printed game board by matching letters. The emerging 6yr old reader could recognize the printed words without having to know how to spell them correctly on her own as with a blank board. The 10yr old and adults could just play along without it being obnoxiously simple. This was a great game for a nice family evening. It has potential for the game to get more complex as it also includes a blank game board, which would be good with older children. The game tokens are shoddy tagboard punch outs, my only complaint about this game. Well worth the price, but I would have paid a few bucks extra for better quality pieces.

4 Stars Think Fast!
This is a great card game. You must think fast. My grandaughter loves this game.

2 Stars A reasonable card game but not great.
I have no idea why the Amazon price is so out of line with reality on this product. I bought this game at Target for less than $5.00.

It is fun to play and stimulates your brain somewhat, but not to the extent of the original Scrabble game. You can modify the rules and play it with younger players (we play it with our four year old).

Amazon also lists a bunch of choking hazard warnings with this product. Unless your kid can swallow a playing card there is no choking hazard that I can find.

It is worth $5.00 but not $16.00.

4 Stars Fast and fun with four letter words
My older teen grandchildren and my sisters had fun playing this game. It moves along fast and so did we. Laughing.

4 Stars Fun, super fast game….
not really at all like Scrabble, but a fast, find 4 letter words game. Everyone plays at once, so you have to be quick and loud! This has been sold out at the local Target’s and Walmarts around me, but I ended up finding one for around $5 at the last Target I found. Hopefully the price will come down here at Amazon soon. Picked up this one and Monopoly Deal – and everyone loved Monopoly Deal a lot more. All in all, for a 5 min game, fast and easy, this one was good! For 20 min of thoughtful fun, try Monopoly Deal!

4 Stars Scrabble Slam
We searched all oer town for this product and couldn’t find it anywhere in Modesto, Ca We ordered it online and received it promptly and in great condition (new). It ended up costing us aroun $15 shipping included. When I flew out to Dallas to see my daughter, I found the same product for around $5. Oh well.

Super Scrabble Deluxe Edition

Super Scrabble Deluxe Edition

3 Stars somehwat flimsy
Two complaints about this item. 1-The board, especially the hinges are extremely flimsy. I don’t expect it to hold up. and 2-Believe it or not, there are too many “bonus” squares…makes it almost too easy to score big and takes some of the fun out of it.

3 Stars Scrabble Super Deluxe
Super Scrabble Deluxe Edition

Though the set comes with double the tiles (200) and more rows/columns than the original, the board was disappointing. The original deluxe Scrabble (manufactured by S&R)was on a turntable and had deeper edges than this new Hasbro version. This board does not move as easily and has a chintzy feel to it.

5 Stars Super Game !!!
My wife and I are avid Scrabble players. She is actually very avid and serious. She is also very difficult to buy presents for or to surprise with something that she really likes.

When I found Super Scrabble I decided to take a chance and bought it for her for Christmas.

She was skeptical when she opened it, but we played our first game a few days later with our sons who were both home for the holidays and thoroughly enjoyed it. My wife declared that she never wanted to play normal scrabble again!!

It is a great and challenging game. It does take longer to play but does result in higher scores and somehow makes comebacks more possible than in the original version.

Yes the board is a bit flimsy, but we mounted it permanently on a piece of ?inch plywood and it is much more sturdy. It no longer works like a lazy susan, but that could be remedied if I was creative enough.

If you like Scrabble odds are that you will love Super Scrabble.

2 Stars Design, Craftmanship, & Challenge of Game
The design and craftmanship of this board is very poor. They use inexpensive plastic hinges on each end which causes “warping” of the thin plastic used. If they would ’spring’ for two additional plastic hinges between each end it would greatly help in reducing the warping of the board. As it is I am expecting my third shipment in hopes of finally receiving “one” board that isn’t warped and I can lay my letters flat. Upon picking up the board one has to be extremely careful as it tends to break apart at the hinges.

Overall as a game it’s terrific having more spaces and tiles to play with as it makes for a much more interesting and challenging game.

4 Stars Sensational Game, Board not Too Well Made
My husband and I love playing Scrabble, so one day not too long ago, I surprised him by purchasing the deluxe version of Super Scrabble. I wanted it because of the opportunity to make words that you could not make with the regular Scrabble game. I also like the gridded board to help keep the tiles in place while the game is in progress.

As far as the game play goes, we love it… but as far as durability goes, I’m not too thrilled with the way the board is made. The seam where the board folds not only won’t always lay flat, the board comes apart there on a regular basis. In fact, I think the board has come apart every time we play the game… We’re not rough on the game; the board is just made in a slip-shod manner. So far, my husband has been able to put the board back together again each time it comes apart, however, it is plastic so I’m not expecting it to last like it should.

I can’t recommend this version of the game to families with young children because of the structural defects of the game board; aside from that annoying flaw, I do recommend the Super Scrabble game to families with teenage children and to adults who like to stretch their vocabulary. Families with younger children should probably consider the less expensive regular version of Super Scrabble – the one where the board isn’t plastic.

4 Stars Triple bonus score!
Love it love it love it! Played in the park and it everything worked as planned.

A few suggestions: Bring a pencil sharpener or a pen. If one was included it would have been perfect.

5 Stars Have Scrabble Will Travel
If you’re into Scrabble and you want to play on the road (or the beach, or at the pool, etc.), get the travel version of the game. Inelegantly titled “Scrabble Game Folio,” the item is much better than it sounds. It’s Scrabble, just a little smaller, and easier to take with you. Plus, the tiles snap onto the board, so they won’t move around if the board moves (say, while you lean over to reach for your pina colada).

5 Stars Scrabble – travel version
This scrabble version is a very clever travel version. You can play the game in short sessions and it is designed to hold everything in place when you close it. When you open it back up for more play, everything piece is where you left it including your seven tiles on your closeable tile keeper. Wonderful product.

5 Stars Great for the couch potato
The tiles stay put when passing this game back and forth to the player sitting next to you on the sofa, in bed, or wherever you are. If you don’t have time to finish the game, it folds in half and everything stays secure! It’s the greatest for the laziest of us.

5 Stars parentofteen
I loved the scrabble game as my teen daughter likes to play and wanted to be able to pack something in her backpack. You can stop the game and take it anywhere continuing to play at another time. This is a quality game and easy to use and store.
