5 Stars Kung Fu Panda storybook
I bought this for my 4 yr old granddaughter and she reads it over and over again. She loves to “read” all by herself with this. It’s not just a toy, but a reading helper.

5 Stars Another good one by Leap Frog
So far, anything that leap frog has put out has been a winner in this house. I incorporated leap frog leapster and tag reader in my son’s homeschool as a type of award-reward!

5 Stars So fun!
My 4.5 yr old son loves this book! He “reads” it all the time, and I have noticed that his speech sounds are improving and becoming more clear. Great book!

4 Stars Kung Fu Panda
My son enjoys using the pen on big words he doesn’t know. It gives him a little more ease when he reads, instead of sitting there struggling. He’s in first grade.

5 Stars TAG!!!! coolest thing yet!
I really like the tag reading system! my daughter plays with this everyday!! Po is one of her favorites! along with the ariel princess one! they read the story fully or you can do it word by word, play games, and make sounds! very cool!!!

5 Stars Learning Can Be Fun
Very good product. My wife is actually using the Tag system to learn to read English better. It’s so much fun for her that she doesn’t even realize she’s learning basic principles that all English learners must learn fo a solid foundation. Kudos to Leapfrog!

5 Stars Spongebob
I purchased this book for my 4 year old, who can’t get enough of Spongebob and Patrick, and he loves it, he still listens to it eventhough he has the story totally memorized, he actually reads along with the story now (more from memory than actual word recognition). In addition, my 18 month old has got into the act, and he’s started to memorize it. I highly recommend this product.

5 Stars Great product at a great price
what can i say other than both my son and daughter love this. I’m glad I made the purchase. Great price here on Amazon too.

5 Stars Excellent! Better than most other tag books.
I agree with the overall sentiment that the tag reading system is a great product. However, I just wanted to chime in to say that this book is much better than the average tag book.

My daughter liked reading the story — but, what keeps her coming back are the quizzes and games. This is where the SpongeBob book shines. There is a really nice section at the back with several pages of quizzes and games. The games progress in levels where the child builds upon what they are learning. For example, there is a section on ‘past and present’ tense. First the concept is introduced, then the child is asked to pick a few words which are then used in a funny story/example. Then they play a game where the tag reads words and they must choose whether the word is past or present. The child must understand the concept before being able to choose the correct answers. I really enjoyed watching my daughter figure this out.

Overall, I think this is a great book, very entertaining and keeps the kids interested over time — which for me is important. I don’t want to have to buy a new book every week to keep my daughter interested in the toy. There aren’t that many books available and it would become expensive fast.

5 Stars Excellent Tag Book
We purchased this for my 6 year old daughter’s Tag reader system, and she LOVES it. She is a big Spongebob fan, and this is a tremendous hit. The sounds are very funny and mixed in with all the sounds and fun, the Tag reader system is really helping her be a better reader on her own.

This is absolutely her favorite Tag book.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Good case
So far this has been a good case. We can put 5 books in it with his Tag pen. Sometimes it’s a little hard to open but my 4-yr-old has it figured out.

5 Stars Neat, convenient storage for Tag reader and books
I bought this case for my daughter once I got tired of looking at her books and reader scattered over her desk. She also likes to take her Tag with her sometimes when we’re on the go and it was always difficult for her to try to juggle the reader and the books.

While you could purchase almost any plastic case to keep the books organized, the advantage to this one is the molded slot that holds the reader itself. Once the case is closed, the Tag is secure and I no longer worry about her dropped it on the pavement and breaking it. The case also holds several books neatly and it’s very convenient for my daughter to have all of her Tag gear in one place. It also means that she can bring a greater variety of books along with her on trips and as she tends to get very involved in the stories and games, this is a lifesaver for me when I need to run a boring errand as I know she’ll be well distracted.

My only real complaint about the case is that it doesn’t accommodate the large boards such as the Super Speller. It would have been nice to have the option of carrying this as well and being able to store it would help ensure that the letters on the board don’t fall off and get lost. Still, I’m glad that I bought this case rather than just any plastic case. I feel it was well-worth the money because it does protect the Tag. Replacing that would cost considerably more than paying for the case.

5 Stars Perfect companion
I only gave it two stars on fun and educational because it is neither of those things. The stuff it holds however is very fun and educational. This case is perfect for the TAG reader. It holds the reader sturdy and it keeps it from getting broke or turning on. It also holds five books, which is all that the TAG reader can hold. So it is a good way to keep your kids from trying to read books that you do not have currently loaded.

5 Stars Great Product!
This product serves its purpose well. It has storage for several books and your tag reader pen which is a must in order to keep the pen and the books together. Only thing that I would add is a place for the cord that connects the pen to the computer, but there is plenty of extra space to stick it in there. Very durable and protective.

5 Stars Tag Case
The case is a great accessory to the Tag Reader to keep everything together in one spot.

5 Stars Gets my 5 year old boy excited about reading
I spy is one of my son’s favorite things to do and being able to use this book with the tag reader is just the icing on the cake. More than anything, I am seeing my little boy finally interested in reading. The rewards online from the tag reader are a boost. I give this book along with the tag reader a two thumbs up. Anything to interest my son in reading, I say do it. Sit with your child and have some fun. Also, I hear audio books are another way to intrigue your child. I am researching this now to find the right audio book the first time!

2 Stars Not the Best Tag Storybook
The pictures are really small and even I had difficulty identifying some of the objects. It just didn’t hold my daughter’s interest the way some of the other Tag books did.

5 Stars Traditional I Spy with something extra as well
This is a good book for the LeapFrog Tag system. It combines your standard I Spy book reading experience of looking for a short list of items in the text, with a few extra games – similar to some of the suggestions you may find at the back of an I Spy or a Look and Find book. My child loves I Spy and Look and Find, so this is a great title for him.

I think it might have been nice to have other items on the pages named rather than silly sounds, but it is probably part of the reward system for finding the correct word . . . or perhaps a limitation of the storage on the device. I purchased the Tag and three books and it seems like it will only hold a couple more.

5 Stars My son LOVES I SPY!!
I purchased this book for my son because he loves all I SPY books. So what better than a talking I SPY book!! The games are fun and are offered on selective pages but it gets my son thinking and lengthing his attention span by looking for the item. Overall WE love I SPY!!!

5 Stars This is fun beyond just the scripted text in the book
I spent a number of hours — yes hours — with my 5 year-old son finding things hidden in the pictures throughout these pages, and had some good laughs doing so. I generally like the Tag reading system, and this book is one of my favorites. I truly enjoy spending this kind of quality time with my children, and with something that is educational as well as fun.

5 Stars A gift
Bought this as a gift and the kid loves it! Great product and quick delivery and product by amazon.

5 Stars LOVE IT!
We have a 4yr old daughter and she adores her TAG system! She hauls the pen and books all over the house with her! We love that it’s educational as well as entertaining! It was a great investment, and I highly recommend it!

2 Stars LeapFrog support stinks. Software buggy / error handling poor.
Product isn’t working properly. I install the software on my computer and then attempt to connect to my Tag reader. It says that the reader needs to be updated and then that the application that will do the updating hasn’t been downloaded yet and that once it is downloaded that I should cycle power on the Tag reader and reconnect. There is no indication of whether this is an automatic download handled by the Connect software or whether it requires user intervention. If it is automatic then it isn’t working. If user intervention is required there are no instructions and no utility or files anywhere for manual firmware download, etc. And yes, I know how my computer works and no I haven’t got problems on my end that are causing the problem. I am a computer scientist. If I can’t get it working then how in heck is the average user going to?

E-mail only support. No phone, no live chat. Stated 48-72hr response time. Crapola folks. In the past I’ve played a major role in a product support group. I know darn well that results come from real-time communication. I don’t have the time or patience for this. It is a mass market product that, after you buy several books, isn’t cheap. They should at least have bombproof software or better support — preferably both.

I will seriously think twice about purchasing a LeapFrog product again.

5 Stars You can get more storage for addional books
There is another version of tag reader that you can order from leapfrogschoolhouse.com which will hold 20-25 books instead of only 5. I got one last month and it works great. I ordered the books from the website and was not sure if the books sold in stores would work in it but my son bought the Dora book from Walmart and it works in it.

5 Stars An great addition to book reading time
My 3 year old grandson has loved the Tag reading system with the books we got for him (especially Cars- Tractor tipping.) Part of his bedtime ritual is to have a book or 2 (or 3) read to him, and the Tag reader is now incorporated into this time. He enjoys touching different objects on each page to hear the sounds they make — it’s sometime amazing how many times in a row he wants to hear the same sounds. I think it will be really helpful shortly when he has the patience to try actually reading the individual words, but we’ll see how that actually works out. I’ve already bought 4 more books for him since he has had so much fun with the three he has. He also like to do the activities, though his parents have not tried uploading the results of those activities.

He uses it independently as well as with parents.

All in all a really great “educational toy.”
