In celebration of Barbie doll’s 50th anniversary, favorite dolls and period fashions return, recreated in loving detail. If you missed your chance before, or no longer have your beloved Barbie, now is your opportunity to reconnect with a long-lost friend! Each set includes a reproduction Barbie doll, and extra reproduction fashion from the era and a collector’s booklet. Complete your 50th anniversary collection with the My Favorite Barbie doll series of unforgettable, innovative dolls. Each sold separately. Brunette Bubble Cut Barbie Doll measures approximately 12″ tall.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars lovely Barbie reproduction
Issued to celebrate Barbie’s 50th anniversary, this is a reproduction of the 1962 brunette ‘bubblecut’ doll, with a bonus era-appropriate fashion also included in the package.

Dressed in her standard jersey-cut red swimsuit, the brunette bubblecut doll also wears pearl stud earrings and red open-toed mules. The bubblecut hairstyle was introduced in 1962, proving to be very popular at the time–partially inspired by the look and glamour of Jackie Kennedy. Collectors of vintage Barbie also particularly love the bubblecut dolls; the rare “sidepart bubblecut” being a highly sought-after variation which was only produced for a short time. In addition, a spectacular “bubble-on-bubble” hairstyle was created as one of the wigs for the Fashion Queen Barbie doll.

My only quibble with this reissue lies in the quality of the hair. Original bubblecuts (and earlier repros like “Silken Flame” and “Career Girl”) were much more realistic. The hair on this current repro is far too bouffant; Barbie looks like she’s overdosed on hairspray!

Also included in this package is a reproduction of “Enchanted Evening”, one of Barbie’s most desirable and popular gowns of the era. A delicate, strapless gown made of frosted pink satin, with a white faux fur stole. Long white gloves, triple-strand pearl necklace, pearl stud earrings and sparkly open-toed pumps complete this elegant gown.

This is a classic doll reproduction; perfect for the Barbie collector in your family.

5 Stars Beautiful Reproduction!
The previous reviewer is spot on in the quibbles, this is not a perfect reproduction of the Bubble Cut Barbie dolls from 1963-On. My Mother had this doll and I played with it with my action figures when we visited the Grandparents, so I did a comparison side by side.

The hair and face are the biggest differences. The Face molds for all the repro’s are just not as rounded as the original. They have an entirely different look to them. The painted face looks beautiful, and I would say they have captured the “essence” of the original well. The hair is nothing like the original, and I can see it losing its shape over time, unlike the originals.

Most importantly, it looks great displaying vintage fashions. The included Enchanted Evening looks breathtaking when displayed on your new doll, and all of the original vintage fashions get a little touch of glamor with a brand new repro Bubble cut in them. This is a lovely display doll to de-box and put up on the mantel!

I would highly recommend this for collector’s looking for a doll to display vintage fashions. I don’t think it will have much value on the secondary market (These are Pink label and being mass produced.) but it’s perfect to display.

2 Stars Mattel Laccking in Product Presentation Holes in Gown

Why does Mattel insist on poking a hole through every fine fabric costume on collectible dolls with a needle and thread or plastic t-tie?

After the millions of dolls they have sold, could their staff devise a way to keep the doll in the box without having to sew the dress to the box?

Even if the collector wishes to display the doll outside the box, they must try to carefully remove the thread – which still leaves the hole poked through the fabric in front of gown.

All in all, the set is a desirable one due to the resemblance to the earlier doll, but really, why would someone pay this much money for a doll with a gown with holes punched through the fabric?

Madame Alexander – a premier doll manufacturer for years – has for years securely fastened their dolls with a simple ribbon or rigid plastic forms. Why can’t Mattel do the same?

Mattel is lacking in Quality Control on this issue, and the same with the Elvis and Priscilla Presley Giftset. Three holes are punched through the fabric of Priscilla’s dress!

2 Stars The Box’s Corners Were In Poor Condition
As a Barbie Collector, I want the box to be in perfect condition but it was not. I was disappointed. Another Barbie I ordered was not like that at all, she was perfect. So, I guess this time was just a fluke.

5 Stars Vintage 1962 repro. Barbie
Upon receiving this particular doll, it brought back many fond memories. I am a collector but some Barbie’s are more fun to have than others. This one is one of my new favorites.

5 Stars Vintage 1962 repro. Barbie
Upon receiving this particular doll, it brought back many fond memories. I am a collector but some Barbie’s are more fun to have than others. This one is one of my new favorites.

5 Stars Lovely doll, excellent fashion reproduction
1962 Brunette Bubblecut Barbie Doll is a wonderful doll, but she’s not a perfect reproduction of the original. This doesn’t detract from the doll’s quality and visual appeal, though. I have deboxed the doll, and I own genuine vintage versions of the doll, so I am evaluating this doll from the standpoint of accuracy, visual appeal, and overall quality of a deboxed display doll.

My main critique about the doll concerns the doll’s hair. It is much too silky and shiny to be a good match to the original. The dolls from 1962 had a very coarse, dull-sheened hair fiber, that holds it’s style extremely well. Those 1962 hairstyles are often found perfectly intact 45 years later, even dolls that have been played with. Mattel should research and duplicate that hair fiber for these repro dolls. Not only would it be a good match to the originals, but the dolls would require far less ’setting lotion’ or whatever glue Mattel uses to sculpt the hairstyles for these repro dolls.

The facial screening is great, but it’s more similar to a 1966 doll than a 1962 doll. The shape of the lips, the color of the lips and eye shadow, is more similar to a ‘high-color’ Color Magic Barbie doll or 1966 Barbie with Lifelike Bendable Legs. This doll should have pink or coral lips, as red lips were less common in 1962 than they were in other years. That said, it’s still a very visually pleasing face paint pattern.

The fashion reproduction of Enchanted Evening is superior to the previous reproductions of the fashion, and it looks very good and fits well on the doll. The fashion alone is worth the price, as it is of very high quality.

Overall, a great doll, and the reproduction booklet is a great bonus. Worth the price, for sure.

2 Stars Mattel Laccking in Product Presentation Holes in Gown
