5 Stars Great Toy! Funny and Entertaining!!!
We bought this toy for our 12 month old son for Christmas. We didn’t expect him to play with it much yet but figured it would give him something to do while I load the dish washer or something. We were wrong. He loves this toy! He pushes the buttons to make the music come on and dances along. He understands that the puzzle pieces should go in it but he can’t figure out how yet, but he tries. It’s really cute that the Car Wash knows if you put the wrong vehicles together and it sings cute and catchy songs whether you are right or wrong. We have a 5 and 6 year old too and they enjoy playing with it too! Very durable, has 2 volume settings and strong magnets. I’m going to order the Farm one too.

5 Stars Love it!
Got this toy for my son’s 1st birthday. He has the farm version at his Nana’s house and loves both toys! He carries them around, drops them frequently and pushes the buttons over and over… No problems. Neither one has slid down the fridge in the slightest and both take a beating and keep working great. I do like the voice on the farm version better but think the car wash one has more educational value since it says more information about each vehicle. Overall, I think it’s great!

4 Stars Great to help pass time in the kitchen!
My 1 yr old received this gift from “Santa” this year and he really likes it!! He is starting to be able to fit the pieces in and he loves to hear the songs!! My 4 yr old received the Farm Fridge a few years ago and he LOVED it, as soon as I saw the new Vehicle one–i knew I had to get it!! The thing I LOVE the most about it, is that my kids can be in the kitchen with me, while I am cooking supper playing with them!! I also LOVE how durable it is and I can clean it VERY EASILY!!! One of my favorite LeapFrog products!!

4 Stars Christmas present for my son
My son is very obsessed with anything that has “wheels” so when I saw this at Target, I knew I had to get it for him. I looked around a little, and the price here was good. He opened it up on Christmas and promptly yelled “wheels!”, and I knew I made a good choice. Half the time it isn’t on the fridge because he’s carrying it around the house with him. It’s slightly different from the barn animals one they have available in that you can put 2 mismatched pieces together and it comes up with a cute name for the “new” vehicle. There’s 2 different volume levels, a button that just plays a song, and when you put the vehicle together in the magnetic area, it identifies it by color, congratulates you for making a match, and sings a little song. My son absolutely loves this toy.

5 Stars Love it!
My son received this toy as a first birthday gift. It is a little beyond him right now. He can’t quite get the parts into the right area yet, but if they are already there or we help him he can push them and hear the music. We (mom and dad) love this toy! We have fun playing with it and hearing the songs. We have not had any problems with it sliding down the fridge. It has been thrown a couple times without any consequence. The one issue I have it that it does sound like the toy has a lisp when it talks about the green train. It sounds like “gween twain”. Not really a big deal just kind of a weird thing.

Melissa and Doug Magnetic Wooden Alphabet

Melissa and Doug Magnetic Wooden Alphabet

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Quality magnetic letters
My 2 year old loves these colorful letters. He is past the stage of putting things in his mouth, so we haven’t had the issue that some other reviewers have had with the paper coming off. They stick very well and are of a good size. I highly recommend these over the ones I had as a kid–cheap, lightweight plastic letters with a tiny magnet in the back that popped out and didn’t properly hold the letters the right side up.

5 Stars Grandma Loves M&D Magnetic Wooden Alphabet
My sister takes care of her two grandsons often. At 2 and 3 years of age she had used the magnetic alphabet to teach the boys to spell their names.

The little goobers can recognize and spell their names. Bravo!

4 Stars D&M alphabet
Our 17th month loves these. However, he still is at age of placing objects in his mouth. The color on some letters is beginning to wear due to wetness. Size is good for his some hands. Definitely recommend.

1 Star THESE CONTAIN LEAD in the Magnets!
I thought these were SO COOL, then I had them tested at a local free lead testing for kids toys and they came back POSITIVE. Further research at Healthytoys dot org showed that the magnets contain a MEDIUM level of LEAD!!!. If you child is extra careful not to touch the magnet parts then I guess these are fine, but if your child is like mine and likes to touch the entire thing and then put his fingers in his mouth, these are too dangerous.

Healthytoys dot org lists lots of toys as both safe and unsafe, according to brand. It’s good to be careful these days.

2 Stars Not what I expected
It would have been nice to have been informed that these pieces are only a few inches long. I assumed by looking at the photos that these were about twice the size, so I was disappointed. My children only played with them once for a little bit and haven’t touched them ever since.

5 Stars magnetic chore chart
Excellent! One of the best products from melissa and doug that i’ve seen/purchased. one of the more reasonably priced ones as well, kids love it.

4 Stars Great Way to Visualize Efforts
We have two 9 month old babies and it is not as easy as it once was to give immediate feedback and reinforcement to my preschooler for a job well done. To top that off, it is more important than ever that jobs actually get done more independently (get dressed etc). This chart is a great way for my almost-4-year-old to receive immediate feedback when he completes a task. I like that you are able to change what responsibilities are important but I would like it if there were more spaces to put the current responsibilities.

4 Stars Good one!
Its really helping me with my daughter’s progress….She even reminds me every night to complete the chart!!, the good thing is that you get a weekly progress not just a single one, so if she does ok by the end of the week she gets a reward…

5 Stars So Far, So Great
I bought this for my 4 year old. So far it’s been great. She enjoys putting the smiles on the chart, getting praise and positive reinforcement for doing all sorts of jobs and good deeds. It’s helped us to cut down on arguments and aggravation. We’ve only finished the chart one time so far, but we’re all really happy with it and look forward to trying out new jobs and responsibilities… for real.

5 Stars Chore chart
The Melissa and Doug Magnetic chore chart is great. I love that its very interchangable, my children pick out the chores they want to be responsible for each week so they don’t get bored of doing the same thing. We use the bottom section to write what they’re weekly reward will be with a dry erase marker. It is very sturdy and all in all a great product.

4 Stars Nice toy.
My 18-month old grandson loved carrying it around, pushing the buttons, watching and listening. A good purchase.

4 Stars my 2 year old loves it
Once I was able to get her to understand to not take it off of the fridge, which didn’t take long, this has been a fun toy. Even though she likes magnets that are smaller that she can put on and take off of the fridge, I, as a parent, love this toy because I am not having to pick it up of the floor constantly like some of the other magnetic alphabets.

5 Stars Great musical fun!
Our 15 month old daughter loves all types of music, and we wanted to get something portable for her to listen to. From the moment she got this “radio”, she was hooked. It’s one of the first toys that she grabs each morning, and plays with throughout the day.

Pros:

- Good mix of educational (Alphabet Song, Days of the Week, etc.) and classic music (Old MacDonald, Itsy Bitsy Spider, etc.).

- Easy for a toddler to carry.

- Nice LED display with letters and numbers.

Cons:

- The “classic” songs are music only, no singing.

- The music all sounds a bit computer-generated (ie. MIDI).

- Adults might get tired of hearing that kid’s voice saying “All Right!” after almost every song.

5 Stars best radio for a toddler
This radio is easy enough for my one year old to handle…not all of the toddler radios out there are really easy for them to use. This one has multiple songs that were new to us, as well as some old favorites. They weren’t as annoying as some other musical toys that play the same two songs over and over. My daughter has had it for 5 months and still wants to play with it daily. Her 5 year old sister even enjoys it, as well. Definitely one I would recommend and buy as a gift.

5 Stars Enjoyable, durable and worth the money!!!!!
I bought this radio as a last minute Christmas toy for my son who was 15 months old at the time. It was love at first sight. It was not only the hit of the day but the most enjoyable (for him) toy that I have ever gotten him to date. He carried it around with him most of the time rather than leaving it on the refrigerator but whatever works for him works for me. He loved most of the songs and played them over and over again. He knows all the songs front to back and it took him no time to learn which “station” to turn it to and how many times he needed to push the music button to get to the song he wanted. We also live on a second floor apartment and going though his throwing phase he tossed it of the balcony several times and almost 3 years later it is still going strong. Music, structure and magnet rise. While he no longer plays with it constantly I can tell you that he, 3 years later, still turns it on at least one a day. Anything that costs 20 bucks and lasts more than 6 months (entertainment wise) is well worth the money. I have read comments about the sound quality and loudness of the radio so I thought I would comment on it. The sound quality could be a little sharper but my son was able to learn the sons fine so no complaints from me. As for the loudness, I can hear it from any room in the house, any louder and it might be annoying rather than enjoyable. It would be a top choice for a gift for a child between the aged of 1 and 3.

Celestron SkyScout Personal Planetarium

Celestron SkyScout Personal Planetarium

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars This gadget got me back into astronomy
The SkyScout is a remarkable device and works surprisingly well. The accuracy is amazing, i’m able to get most of the objects using the locate function within the 2 rings of the sights. However, this device is really sensitive to any large metals or magnets which can easily skew the accuracy by a few degrees. Some reviews complain about the lack of a built-in speaker, but that would affect its accuracy. The GPS lock is usually within a minute and I can even get a lock in the 2nd floor of my house. The controls are intuitive and the audio descriptions are great.

I order this through Adorama and they shipped me a IYA 2009 limited edition instead. Basically it includes the IYA2009 SD card for additional audio and descriptions.

The best part of it all is that it got me back into astronomy. Trying to locate the constellations with a sky map in light polluted skies has always been frustrating, but the skyscout makes it easy. I now mount it on my telescope to transform it into a “push-to” scope. Highly recommend and a must to would-be and experienced astronomers.

5 Stars works as stated, and if you get a bad one, send it back
everyone loves amazon for the prices, i more like it for the return policy, 30day no questions, i would have never got in a car, drove to a shopping center and gambled 200$ on a device such as the skyscout, thats whats so great about amazon for me, on this device, once i agian i was lucky, it worked right out of the box, i get the magnetic field reading sometimes, but it quickly goes away, using the skyscout for a few months led to research motorized telescpopes, took another gamble and got the celestron nexstar 130, tripod was stripped, so i sent it back and got another one(no charge for return or shipping of course), it works great. with these items, there is a risk of getting bad procuct, but there is no risk of getting cheated, just understand the very real possibility of having to send high value electronics back, if you can deal with that, this is a really cool device, and the price is just right, and i am below average with electronics, manuels, the works, this thing could not be easier, look at a star, hit the target button and it tells you the name, scientific data, and many have audio or text descriptions, that simple, and just plain fun, idea for families, kids of all ages, couples, everyone, it commands ones attention much like a tv, xept this device has you outside, observing nature itself. if you can afford it, and are interested in the stars, do not be afraid to purchase this device, many of the bad reviews are 2-3 years old, and the others i can only assume were just bad product.

def get sum rechargeable batteries, people seem to like eneloop, by sanyo

update, last week i left my skyscout outside all night in the rain, fearing the worst i turned it on a few hours later, and with the rain clouds still above me, it found the satelites and is working like a charm, they only way the skyscout could be better if it was cheaper.

2 Stars SkyScout Satellite Linkage
This is a well thought out design and valuable tool for star identification. However, I could not get mine to link up with the satellites and went through batteries trying. The unit wouldn’t even link up with the satellites over an almost clear sky horizon. Garmin technology for satellite linkage would make this product so much more valuable. Celestron SkyScout Personal Planetarium

5 Stars Just what I’d hoped!
I had initially intended to purchase a MySky, but after reading so many negative online reviews I was pointed to the SkyScout – & we love it! Not only did it make the perfect birthday gift for hubby (who had no idea such a cool toy existed) but we’ve had fun as a whole family. Easy to use and set up – we haven’t experienced one hitch.

5 Stars Great Device No Problem Updating Firmware
I like many people had no interest in the night sky until my daughter had to do a school project on the moon. I discovered this device on Amazon and was using it with no difficulties and with amazement from the first night I received it. Since receiving it in March I now have my neighbors looking at the night sky and learning the names of stars and looking at planets and constellations that I had ignored in the past. It even can locate deep sky objects which I was able to see on a recent trip where the sky was dark. I have recently updated my firmware that took me around 10 minutes on Windows XP with no problems whatsoever. This device has awakened the scientist in me and I would recommend it to anyone interested in the universe.
