Embark on dangerous rescue missions as Anakin, R2-D2, C-3PO and other Jedi knights to free members of the Republic imprisoned on federation cruisers and increase your Jedi ranking. Fly to enemy ships, engage in starflight battles and duel with light sabers while learning basic mathematics and telling time skills. The order of the galaxy depends on your success.

Leapster2 players can even connect online for extra activities and rewards. And best of all, parents can use the Leapster2 System to connect to the LeapFrog Learning Path, an online, interactive tool in which parents can get updates and see firsthand what their children are learning.
5 Stars Star Wars
Both my sons 6 & 4 enjoy playing this game. It uses basic math as tool to fight and advance.

4 Stars Star Wars Lego for Leapster is a Winner
My son asked for this toy — he enjoys his Leapster L-Max & he is a fan of Star Wars. I got it for him for Easter and he plays with it. He is six and the game challenges him and motivates him to develop his arithmetic skills in a stimulating and exciting way.

5 Stars Great for teaching math and time skills
My 7 year old son loves Star Wars The Clone Wars, so I knew he would like this.

The best thing about the game is the questions get more difficult as the player advances within the chosen level. So, though it may start with single digit number recognition, it advances to double digit number recognition. It may start with asking about general time of day, but then advances to specific time of day and then to reading time on a digital clock.

I recommend this game for pre-K through second grade.

A more detailed description is presented below.

______________________________________________

SPACE

Shoot the correct number to get to navigate through space to get to the ship where the prisoner is held.

Level 1: features recognition of numbers 1 through 10.

Level 2: features subtraction of single digit numbers.

Level 3: features addition of a two digit number with a single digit number.

THE SHIP

To get through the rooms, answer questions about time.

Level 1: questions feature time of day, like when do you usually leave for school (morning, afternoon, evening)?

Level 2: learn how to read time on an analogue clock to the hour.

Level 3: learn to read time on an analogue clock to the half hour.

LIGHTSABER DUEL

Answer the math questions quickly and Skywalker attacks. Answer incorrectly and the enemy attacks. The faster the player answers, the more power they get for their attack.

5 Stars My son loves it!
I really like the Leapster games because of their great educational value. For my son is a wonderful option since he loves to play and makes him realize that learning is like a game and not a boring thing to do.

5 Stars My son loved it!
I got this for my oldest son for his sixth birthday, he loved it and mastered it very quickly which was a confidence booster for him!

5 Stars Leapfrog-Dora’s Camping Adventure
My granddaughter starting playing this as soon as she opened the present. We are all big outdoor people, and this is teaching about wonderful outdoor adventures in english and spanish. The game incorporates other learning within the adventures, the kids think they are playing a fun game but learning about so many new things. She enjoys playing this leapfrog game often.

5 Stars My daugher’s favorite
My four year old daughter got this game for Xmas with her Leapster2. It is a great game. She was playing it in the car today it was singing songs in Spanish and she was telling her 7 year old sister what the songs were in English. There is a game that you go on a raft and match the shapes/letters/etc. When she first got the game she had a lot of difficulty. She hasn’t mastered this game yet but she can now play it. It is very entertaining for her. I do see her having room to grow with this game.

2 Stars Graphics are bad, too many prompts
My daughter took to my husband’s DS recently. She is able to play Smart Girls Playhouse and the Deigo game almost with no help. Since that is a little advanced for an almost 3 year old I bought her this game on the Leapster. While the Leapster is still not technically in her age range I noticed that there was a lot of periods of talking in this game and even I had a hard time getting the unit to respond to the game (left, right, etc on the navi pad). Mostly though I’m very disappointed in this day and age that for what they charge the graphics are still so bad on these games.

With this smart handheld system, children learn valuable school skills through a variety of animated games and activities. Kids use the interactive touch screen and stylus throughout 30 educational games featuring characters they love. The Leapster2 System also offers several options for creative play. Little learners can easily connect online for extra activities and rewards. And best of all, parents can use the Leapster2 to connect to the LeapFrog Learning Path, an online, interactive tool in which parents can get updates and see firsthand what their children are learning.

Leapster2 System comes with built-in starter games; additional software sold separately. Requires 2 “AA” batteries, not included. Measures 13″W x 10.5″H.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Great New Leapster!
My son had two of the old leapsters and they kept shutting down so I bought this one hoping that that would do the trick. It did and is much better. He loves it! He is 4.

2 Stars Great stand alone game machine, but crappy otherwise
My son has fun with the cartridges sold at the retail store, but the sync on PC and SD card matching is very unstable. The software and website for your account is not so intuitive either. I basically gave up on any feature that requires the SD card or Sync to PC.

I would recommend Leapfrog to include a SD card that works, since it seems that all the SD cards I own make it hang/crash. (And I’m using ones that are less than 256MB as instructed…..)

4 Stars My kids like it
It is a nice gift for my son, who just turned to four. He likes it very much.

3 Stars Video Game Lite
The Leapster2 is a nice alternative to those who do not want to purchase a real video game system. It’s look and feel is close enough to a Nintendo DS so that pre-K and early elementary school users will feel like they are interacting with a big kid toy. A child who has access to a DS, Game Cube, or Wii will likely be bored.

The games are fairly simplistic. Skills include identifying numbers, identifying letters, and finding the next step in a sequence. While games have a number of levels, children are neither rewarded nor penalized for their answers. The educational questions are embedded in other activities; therefore, children may ignore the questions and still have a satisfying gaming experience. This negates the value of the parental website which purports to measure the child’s success. Without watching the child’s interaction, it is impossible to know whether s/he is trying to answer correctly or engaging in alternative play. The parent’s web site is most valuable for its feedback on the amount of hours played over the number of sessions per week. This is not an alternative to tutoring for a struggling academic.

Games cost between $25 and $30 a piece, which is not an insignificant investment. The instruction manual encourages parents to purchase an SD card to store games downloaded from the web site. However, according to LeapFrog’s customer service representative, there are only two games available for download (both free) and no plans to add more. Given this scenario, the SD card is an unnecessary investment.

LeapFrog has created an acceptable, entry-level gaming system for the youngest audiences. Future versions would be improved by the ability to play music, download additional games, save and share art projects, and a more sophisticated educational approach. Before purchasing the system, parents should consider their goals and the amount of money that they will deem an acceptable investment to achieve them.

5 Stars Daughter LOVES this….
Mya daughter is 5, and she loves this! My son is also 2 and he enjoys stealing this from “sissy” so he can color. I think it’s educational. It provides me with a little quiet time in the evening… Looking fwd to buying more games.

And best of all, parents can use the Leapster2 System to connect to the LeapFrog Learning Path, an online, interactive tool in which parents can get updates and see firsthand what their children are learning.
User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Star Wars
Both my sons 6 & 4 enjoy playing this game. It uses basic math as tool to fight and advance.

5 Stars My son loves it!
I really like the Leapster games because of their great educational value. For my son is a wonderful option since he loves to play and makes him realize that learning is like a game and not a boring thing to do.

5 Stars perfect, met expectations
my 4 year old can play level 1 and I really enjoy helping him play

User Ratings and Reviews

2 Stars Poor screen and gaming quality
The screen resolution is poor and the display is not crystal clear – Colors look drained. The games for a five year old do not seem to have enough about them (we purchased Wall E with the console). It does not hold their interest for any sustained period. So overall a thumbs down. Maybe should have got the Nintendo DS.

1 Star Worst piece of technology ever produced.
My 2 daughters each received one of these for christmas of 08. I have since attempted to download games for them from the website because this is supposed to have online connectivity.

The online connectivity is a JOKE. There are 2 games to download, which when you go to play them you have turn off the device to play another game. The HOME key brings you back to the beginning of the game, not the home screen of the device.

The SD card is a joke. Leapster recommends you have a 256MB card for this. I don’t know where they pulled this number from, we can all guess. I had a 1GB card and a 2GB card in these at first because I thought it would be plenty of storage for the “online” content that I could download on it. Well the 2 games that I downloaded for them takes up a whopping 7MB ( for those of you that don’t know: MB = Megabyte and GB = Gigabyte. There is approximately 1000 Megabytes in a Gigabyte, yes technically 1024 MB in a GB depending on who your talking to.) So I was using less than 1% of the card. So I decided I would put a 16MB and 32MB card in so that I could use the other ones for better use. Well the cards are not recognized by the Leapster. I have tried every which way to get the cards recognized. I have reformatted them many times and they still don’t work.

I have not called Customer Service but it seems from what I have read they will blame the problem on it not being a 256MB card.

The kids like to play the leapster, thats about it.

The graphics are subpar even for 1990s standards. You would think with all the technology today in handhelds (my PHONE does 3D!!!) you would think they would have something better. This device was definitely built with the absolute lowest tolerable graphics.

If these weren’t gifts I would never have bought one. I would have spent my money on a Nintendo DS where the graphics are better and there is more of a selection of games. There are a lot of Edutainment games for the Nintendo DS as well.

We also have a LeapFrog TAG which I do like, so I don’t have a complete problem with the manufacturer. Just think they should have tested their product a wee bit more before releasing it.

1 Star Pre-installed Game is Awful
We ordered this Leapster for our four year old who was SO excited since his last one broke. Immediatly after turning it on he was directed to the pre-installed game which seemed entirely inappropriate for kids. It’s a dragon game with a very scary villian saying he ‘hates’ the sun and has a scary laugh. I know this may not seem so bad to many parents but to us it was awful. We try hard to not expose our kids to ugly monsters, dragons, and evil and were dissappointed to see that Leapster would have this as a standard game on their Leapster. We have returned this Leapster and are going to just order the other version so as to aviod this game.

1 Star Returned and got a Didj instead
My 5 year old had a leapster 1 but I wanted to get something with the same connectivity as the Tag reader we also have, and the Leapster 2 does that, as well as lets you also download other games to it. The L2 worked fine with game cartridges, but between my five computers here at home with operating sytsems ranging from windows xp through windows 7 beta, the unit would not be recognized by their software. Every computer saw the unit, even saw the SD card inside of it, but their own software just could not connect to it. And the Tag reader worked fine on every one as well. Was just too much time wasted trying to get it to work, so returned and figured I’d try a Didj. Glad I did. The screen is so much better, resolution, clarity, it’s just a much better platform from a techie standpoint. I’ll miss his having the touch screen, but the Didj just worked when I plugged it into his computer, leap frog’s connect software saw it right away, updated it, and everything went as it should. Complete opposite of the Leapster 2… So we’ll just stick with the Leapster 1 for the existing games, and use the Didj moving forward.

Requires 4 “AA” batteries, not included. Measures 13″W x 10.5″H.

1 Star Eye strain, glitches, weighs like a brick
It is hard to believe this a Leapfrog product. The screen is of really poor quality. The picture is fuzzy and strains our eyes. We can’t imagine what it will do our child’s eyes. The thing also weighs quite a bit. Finally, we had several glitches with the touch screen that required resets and recalibration.

Very disappointing.

Buy this as a standalone toy, not as a learning vehicle or an expandable system
