Halex Select 6 Player Croquet Set in Deluxe Carry Case

Perfect for family gatherings and backyard fun, the Halex Select 6-Player Croquet set includes everying you need for friendly competition. It includes six 24-inch hardwoord handles, six 7-inch mallets with caps, two stakes, nine wickets, and six balls. A deluxe carry bag is included for easy storage and allows you to tote the set along to barbecues and afternoons in the park.

User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars Croquet Sixpack
The set arrived in it’s own carrying case and in good condition. The six mallets and the stakes are made from a good quality hardwood and the set includes all items necessary to play a rousing game of croquet. The balls are a bit small based on my memory of other sets I have used but are certainly playable. Time will tell about the durability of the items but summer will certainly include several challenging games of croquet in this household.

4 Stars fun
I have never played Croquet it was fun and the set is really nice all wood and the carrying case is nylon but well made!!

4 Stars An amazing deal for a good croquet set
I actually bought this game just for the hoops as I needed a set and this entire croquet set cost less than merely purchasing a set of wickets by themselves. This set will not endure a lot of abuse and probably wouldn’t last more than a couple of years, but it is a bargain. I purchased a set that cost 13 times what I paid for this, and it is definitely not 13 times better. Yes, the balls are lightweight and the construction and wood quality are not superb, but for what you pay for this set you definitely get your money’s worth.

3 Stars Wooden Croquet Set
Halex Select 6 Player Croquet Set in Deluxe Carry Case

This is a nice set. Sturdy and lots of back yard fun. The only thing I don’t like is that in order for the mallets to fit back into the carry case for storage, you have to unscrew the head from the handle. Then each time you play you have to reassemble the mallets.

4 Stars Great for little kids – Use Wood Glue
I was able to get this set at a local retailer for only $25, needless to say it was a no brainier compared to the much more expensive sets. The proportions are perfect for children under 9 years old. This is not an adult set, but you can make it work even if you’re really tall (just bend a bit more!). The set includes every thing you will need and the one sheet instructions shows a diagram of a proper court. The nylon bad holds everything, including the assembled sticks.

The problem with most of these assemble / dissemble Croquet sets is the handles always fall off in due time. So, I used very good quality wood glue (get the indoor / outdoor glue – not just indoor) and put it on both sides of the groves in the mallet head, then hand twist tight and let it dry.

You will be creating essentially 6 permanent sticks. The directions are fairly complex, but Halex Corporation is part of Regent Sports (think Spalding too). So, you can get decent customer support on most of the items they sell, plus they print all the rules of the major outdoor games on their site (Bocce, Croquet, Badminton, etc.) :

SORRY Sliders

SORRY Sliders

New updates make this classic game even more exciting in this aim, slide and score target game. In SORRY! Sliders, you’ll have a blast sliding and bumping someone back to start. But watch out — it won’t be so enjoyable when it happens to you! Modular game board provides four ways to play. For 1 to 4 players.

User Ratings and Reviews

2 Stars Sorry Sliders Gets Dull Fast
This was fun for my 8 1/2 year old daughter for a few plays, but even with the varying set-ups it gets dull and repetitive fast. She got it out for a few playdates with friends, but none of them were interested in even finishing one game.

I’m surprised to hear complaints about set-up, though. It’s easy and intuitive how to set it up the first time and once the plastic railings have been snapped onto the edge of the cardboard before the initial play session, they do not have to be dismantled for storage. After the simple initial set-up, you just have to lay one piece of track on to another to prepare to play. It’s not complicated at all.

5 Stars Great game!
This game is fun for the whole family. For easy game, you can follow the instructions and use the scoring pawns to do simply counting. In order to teach my 5 year old son more math problems, we do not use the scoring pawns. Instead, we let him count all the scores everyone get. So he has been practicing addition with 20. Best of all, we let him do the math in his head instead of writing it down. So this is really helping his addition skills tremendously.

4 Stars Easy to learn, all-ages fun, no electronics!
It’s hard to pry children under 15 away from their electronics. They don’t want to interact with their peers, parents, grandparents, etc if electronics are available.

This toy quickly took its place in the household as “if we can’t play electronics, this is the next thing we’ll look for”.

It’s especially good for mixed-age groups. The preschoolers can play it with the teenagers, or their grandparents. Even when there’s a horde of children wanting to play, they work out the rules among themselves and negotiate (no, that’s not over the line, yes it is). This is a good social game.

5 Stars Not Sorry I Picked This One Up!!!!!
The classic game of Sorry has always been a huge hit with our family. I picked up this newer Sorry game for my daughter’s 7th Birthday and it has become an instant classic. Her friends always want to play it when they come over and it never gets old. The great thing is that a 5 year old can play this game with no supervision or coaching. The kids absolutely love this game. It’s built well, easy to assemble and put away. Not too many pieces (like stacks of playing cards and whatnot).

The other great thing about this game is that it is equally fun for adults. It pretty much puts everyone at the same level, so it’s not uncommon to get beat by a 5 year old, even when you try your hardest.

After the kids have gone to bed I like to switch up the board to create a new game where you have to really slide the pieces down a long alley… almost like shuffle board. I haven’t tried it yet, but I think there are probably a few great drinking games that can be created using this game.

This is a great game and I am so happy that I purchased it…. And I don’t even really like board games all that much. This one is different.

Pick it up, or you’ll be Sorry!

4 Stars Great little dexterity game
Picked this up recently and the first night it sat in the box. The second night I set it up for one player to toy around with and that was enough to get the daughter to try and after a couple games my son jumped in. Overall had a great time, only worry is that the cardboard may warp.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Lots of Fun!
I bought three of these puzzles for my three year old son. He absolutely loves them. The pieces are a great size and the picture has a lot going on. This was a great purchase.

5 Stars Our four year old Jack can do it,,,,
I was a little worried that this puzzle was a going to be to advanced for a four year old but once he got the boarder finished, he was on a roll. Great puzzle, beautiful colors !!

4 Stars Fun, colorful puzzle. Great for little hands ready for harder puzzles.
My 4-year old son has had this puzzle for three weeks, and probably assembled it 15 times already. He absolutely loves it and can do more and more of it without adult help each time. We had several of Melissa and Doug’s 48 piece floor puzzles and they were becoming easy for him. This was a great transition–the floor size of the puzzle is the same, but the pieces are about half the size, and the design is a little more complex. As with all M&D puzzles, the glossy finish and thick, sturdy pieces make them easy to handle, and hard to damage.

5 Stars Two boys’ review: Share the treasure with this floor puzzle
Melissa and Doug floor puzzles are very popular in our household. This particular puzzle, on the heels of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” trilogy, is one of their favorites.

We have two children, both younger than 6-years old, and highly recommend this puzzle for kids of the same age. The pieces are easy for young children to handle and the puzzle is very durable after repeated uses.

5 Stars Great Puzzle
My son loves puzzles and at the age of 6 he was able to put the puzzle together without any problems.

The puzzle is constructed very well and should last a very long time.

LeapFrog Learn and Groove Musical Table

February 10th, 2010

LeapFrog Learn and Groove Musical Table

It’s a learning fiesta for your little one. This interactive, bilingual activity table engages and entertains your baby for hours. There are songs, melodies, twinkling lights and real instrument sounds, plus lots of things to spin, roll, slide, open and close. The table plays over 40 songs and melodies so your baby stays entertained while exploring. When babies turn the center page, the activity table switches modes and transforms musical discoveries into learning activities where each instrument plays a learning song. The Learn and Groove Musical Table also helps your child develop the motor skills needed for learning to stand. Contoured grips make “pulling up” a piece of cake. As babies learn to stand, their little hands can stay busy with reaching, grabbing and pulling. Measures 23″ x 5.5″ x 15.5″. Requires 3 “AA” batteries (not included).

User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars The legs are not detachable
Don’t be fooled! You can use this on the floor or up on its legs. But once you put the legs on they do not come off. I contacted LeapFrog and they said they are modifying the packaging to indicate this. I had planned to return it but with the legs on it would require a large box and was just more of a hassle than I bargained for. So I kept it but was sorely disappointed. Had I known this I would have bought something else, or at least waited until my grandbaby was able to stand before I put the legs on. Either way, I can’t remove them. A search of the net resulted in some directions on how to remove the legs but I felt like I was going to break them.

5 Stars It gets used everyday
This table has less annoying music than many, and my 11 month old daughter goes over to it at least once an hour and pushes buttons to make music. Two and 3 year old children seem fascinated with this also, and the ability to take the legs off and use a a toy for little crawlers make me glad that in a our low-toy household, we have this toy. We bought it used and find it in great shape.

3 Stars BEWARE of unstable legs
This table is fun, but buyer beware regarding the legs on this toy! First, many of the pics of this item are NOT of this item! The table with the wide feet and blue lights around the center is an older item which is no longer made (I tried the older version at a friend’s house and loved it). The wide feet provided a wonderfully stable base for this toy. However, the new version (with red lights) has unstable legs which are prone to tipping on your child. The legs are also NOT detachable on all units. I was told by Leap Frog that the only way to know whether they are detachable is to unbox the toy and look on the bottom of the item for a “press here” indicator where the legs attach. Seriously?? I’m not sure of a store that is going to allow me to open all the items to find the one with detachable legs! That said, I have the one with the NON-detachable legs and mistakenly attached them BEFORE my child was able to stand independently. Any attempts to use this toy to pull to stand result in this toy tipping onto my child. UGH! So, this toy requires VERY close supervision (as in my holding onto my child while he plays with it in order to avoid him pulling it over onto himself). Other than that, the noises are a bit annoying with a very jazzy lady belting out sounds and songs, so I typically leave it in the OFF position. Why oh why can’t toy makers make SIMPLE cause and effect toys with short bursts of sounds rather than these long, annoying, never-ending songs and sounds? Oh, how I miss the simpler times!

5 Stars My son loves it
My son loves this toy. He has had it for over a year now. I am really surprised how long the batteries last in this unit. A nice feature is that the legs are removable. This allows the music table to be placed on the floor or a tabletop, or to easily be stored away for future use.

3 Stars She never plays with it
It seems like a great toy, and it is very durable, but my daughter wants nothing to do with it. It has just sat in the play room since she was 1 year old.
