2 Stars i dont understand where the 3 yr old comes into play?
I bought this specifically for my home daycare, thinking it would be a big hit with my 4 and 5 yr olds, especially.. but it definetly wasnt, they cannot play with this toy by themselves at all.. which is fine, i will sit and play with them with it, and I do, but at 5, you should be able to play with this, and alot of the pieces you have to shove onto the other gears. i think its definetly for older kids, maybe 6-9?

1 Star green base is impossible to snap together
I do not like this toy. I have 2 boys ages 2 and 5. Neither one of them enjoys this toy. Many of the pieces are really hard to snap together. The green base is almost impossible to snap together and took all of my adult strength to do. How on earth could you expect a kid to do this? I know this toy has good reviews but I must disagree. For a better gear toy I prefer gearation by Tomy.

5 Stars Good Starter
This is a great basic set that makes a lot of flat patterns. My three year old really enjoys it. The set comes with eight bases that can be configured to flat squares, zig zags or pyramids. My kid mostly likes to attach the gears to the base and turn the little handle to make them all go. The super dimensional creations can’t really be made with the basic set. There is a booklet in the box which shows a few different configurations, but you’ll have to help your little one a few times. All in all, this toy is really easy to use and entertaining. Once all the gears are put together they can make a lot of noise! My three year old likes to make a space lab with it and incorporates other toys around it. I’m not sure if the interest for the toy will be around forever, but it does occupy little hands and minds for a while. It is also very durable and colorful.

3 Stars Great for teaching kids mechanics concepts, and unique play
I purchased this for my 4 year old son and he doesn’t really like it. He used the attaching pieces to make things like he would with blocks; the gears just lay on the floor. I personally think it is a great toy to teach kids mechanical concepts. I did myself have trouble figuring out how to place attaching pieces in multiple formats, so it is a good idea to guide your child with this toy so that they can see how creative they can get with this. Maybe my son will get into it later, I think it’s worth hanging on to.

4 Stars Gears are great!
These gears are great – they allow my kids to be creative and to build both with the platforms and without. They have made lots of cool inventive vehicles using these gears as wheels. THey also love making towers. The gears seem indestructible and the pieces are all large enough not to get lost.

5 Stars Bigger than you think – and bigger is better
We love this toy. It is sometimes with her playroom kitchen, and sometimes in my real kitchen. The little crate it comes in is very cute, but we keep the pieces in a shoe box with a lid, because sometimes my 2 year old shakes it in transit. I also have a 2 month old, and I’m planning on taking the carrot out of the set when the baby starts crawling, because it could be a choking hazard, but the other than that it should be fine. My 2 year old loves cutting the pieces, and says she’s “yust yike momma” when she has them out.

I gave 4 stars for educational, but it could have been 5, because I like that, besides working on motor skills, all of the food is healthy, and so it’s emphasizing good food choices.

5 Stars Melissa and Doug has done it again!
I can’t say enough about melissa and Doug toys! They are classic and educational! I got this as a gift for my son who turned two he loves this and will play with it for hours! I own an in home daycare and this toy is a big hit with all of the kids 1 years of age to 8! Well worth the money!

1 Star Boycott Melissa & Doug
[...]

Have you read the WSJ article “What Won’t You Do for a Job?” where Melissa & Doug are highlighted as putting applicants through an interview process so grueling that one job seeker left in tears. The article states that candidates must bring their lunch and three years of W-2 statements. W-2 statements? You have to be kidding me. People feel bad enough about being unemployed these days and Melissa & Doug Toys make them beg and jump through hoops for a job.

I for one will not be purchasing anymore Melissa & Doug products going forward and will be lobbying everyone to boycott their products as well. I am sure that you know someone who has been effected by the economic downturn and who has lost his or her job.

5 Stars Excellent toy and so much fun!
My 2 year old son absolutely loves this toy. We originally discovered it as speech therapy, and since he liked it so much, we bought it for him to play with at home. The wooden pieces are high-quality and make a satisfying “crunch” sound when cut. We liked it so much that we also purchased the cutting fruit crate which is also made by Melissa & Doug.

5 Stars Surprised
How many times has my daughter seen me cut her food and want to do it herself…lots! I was surprised at how easy this was for her to do by herself (2.5 years) This was one of her favorite kitchen toys. Putting the foods back together to do it again was a bit more challenging. She loved to do this over and over again. As always, Melissa & Doug toys are quite durable!

5 Stars Fun toy that had two things a parent may want…
First off, the daughter loves playing with this set. Nice colors, the shapes are clean of the cheap plastic fringe that the molds of other sets can leave behind, and the construction is of unbelievable quality…thick, light pebbled texture for grip, and a good variety of shapes and implements. The frying pan is fun to flip wood food items in like Emiril, and the Dutch oven looks like Le Crueset! Second, as a common sense environmentalist, recycling doesn’t work unless there’s demand for the stuff made out of recycled goods…so, we gotta put our money where our mouths are. These toys make perfect sense, not only does it put some demand (the $$ reward for communities/business doing the collecting) on a substantial waste stream in the US but it also employs Americans who’s kids may be going to school some day with my kid! Our daughter will be getting the sandbox set, the recycling truck and the dump truck for her 2nd birthday…gotta love a business model like this! Way to go Green Toys!

5 Stars green toys
A great product-colorful, durable and many pieces! I love that it s recycled material too.

5 Stars Excellent product
Both of my daughters love this set. Compared to their other cheap plastic Disney dishes, these look china. Very thick and sturdy and very cute colors. I love all of green toys products.

5 Stars Best set of dishes for kids
I have three children & run an in home daycare. This toy dining set is the best I have ever had. It’s very durable and can stand up to really being used and never show a mark. I love it so much I am going to buy a second set so we have more to play with.

5 Stars cooking set
My son liked it right out of the box and made “stew” and “coffee” for us.
