4 Stars Sequence…great game
Sequence is a enjoyable game for all ages. Deluxe sequence is the best format, because you don’t fold the board, so it doesn’t have all the folds to deal with.

5 Stars wonderful family game
This is a wonderful game to play with the whole family. You can play in groups or separately. Involves strategy and helps young ones to think through their plays. The cushioned playing mat is more comfortable and seems to hold the pieces in their place better than the other board.

4 Stars This Game Is A Blast
My family has enjoyed this game many times since purchased in July. The more players, the more fun the game becomes. You can strategize only to a certain extent. The rest is pure luck. Our new family favorite game. Well worth the money.

5 Stars Sequence Review
I like this game. I played it once before and liked it, therefore, I got one for myself. I love card games that make you use strategy, which this game does. Deluxe Sequence

Jumbo Sequence – Box

5 Stars Enjoyable Game
“Sequence” is a card game with a play board. It involves a little luck and a lot of observation and advance planning. No two “rounds” are alike. Although I am not an avid game player, I found “Sequence” to be a lot of fun for the whole family. We take it on camping trips also.

Ticket to Ride Europe

March 4th, 2010

Ticket to Ride Europe

Ticket to Ride: Europe takes you on a new train adventure across Europe. From Edinburgh to Constantinople and from Lisbon to Moscow, you’ll visit great cities of turn-of-the-century Europe. More than just a new map, Ticket to Ride: Europe features brand new gameplay elements including Tunnels, Ferries and Train Stations. The game also includes larger format cards and Train Station game pieces. Like the original Ticket to Ride, the game remains elegantly simple, can be learned in 5 minutes, and appeals to both families and experienced gamers. Ticket to Ride: Europe is a complete, new game and does not require the original version. Part of the Ticket to Ride series.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Great Game!
We first played Ticket to Ride USA and thought this one would be fun too. We were right! Adding the tunnels, being able to use the trains of other players and other twists makes this game all that much more fun! Excellent game – we would (and do) recommend it to anyone!!

5 Stars Great followup, not as good as the original
To anyone considering this game that hasn’t played the original Ticket To Ride, I’d recommend checking out the US version’s reviews first. The short version of pretty much all the reviews is: the game is wonderful, you won’t be disapointed.

Compared to the original, this game isn’t quite as fun. Not much has changed in this version. The map is very different, there are now tunnels and express ways (or something like that) that limit how you can claim your routes, and there are the addition of the train stations, but ultimately these new additions do not add to the experience significantly, and the tighter board makes for a somewhat more stressful experience. This should not deter anyone interested in another ticket to ride though: this game is still very fun.

If you’re getting this game for a younger kid(say, 8 or younger), I’d recommend getting the original first, as the train station rules can confuse adults as well as kids.

4 Stars Definately game of the year!
This Game is Great! My wife and I love to play it with friends. It’s fast and easy to pick up with people who haven’t played before.

5 Stars Time for fun
Very good game that continues Ticket To Ride series with new features which enhance player’s fun and satisfaction. Besides that, the board map allows you to learn a more about Europe’s geography.

4 Stars Quick and Light with a hint of Luck
If I had to summarize this game in a few words, I would use “quick and light with a hint of luck.” That is to say, I didn’t like the game — I think it’s a perfectly wonderful game. We just got it yesterday and so far me and my brother have played it over fifteen times. It’s a very fast paced game so whenever we’re stuck with a decision to make, it almost seems like the other player gets anxious to move because they’re already ready.

Plus, it’s a nice change from a game like Power Grid where luck is not really a factor and you spend your time strategizing more often than not and a turn takes forever to complete.

The book of rules, while seemingly long, is very easy to pick up once you start playing. They’re not complex at all and for the most part are pretty straight-forward. The only thing we found confusing was the part about drawing more destination tickets. In the beginning, when going over the turn order, it tells us we draw destination tickets as the third step in a turn but later on in the destination ticket section, it tells us we “may” draw destination tickets. In the end, we figured out there was no way we were forced to draw destination tickets every single turn as it would be absolute chaos (since we’re forced to keep at least one of the three we draw).

The drawbacks we have seen so far in the gameplay are the facts that the long destinations tickets are limited to only six and after playing the game so many times yesterday, it’s always quite clear which of the six we’re attempting. And the fact that with the point system, building the long tunnel between Stockholm and St. Petersburg and even the smaller six train routes give players a large point advantage, whether or not they need it.

We have yet to play with more than two players so we expect the gameplay and strategy to be kicked up a notch when we add more players (and hopefully we won’t figure out what long routes we’re all attempting, if we’re doing them at all) and we’re looking forward to that. Hopefully that will make it seem a bit more interesting as I suspect it’s already getting a little predictable.

But that still doesn’t stop us from wanting to play more. It’s a very addicting little game and it reminds me a bit about how we were when we first discovered Catan. Definitely the other great gateway game we’ve played so far. As relative newbies to these new types of boardgames, we’re more than satisfied we added Ticket to Ride Europe to our collection. We’ve never played the first Ticket to Ride but it does make me wonder how it differs in terms of game play.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Great game
This game is an excellent way to spend an evening, as it has several length options and can be played as individuals or as teams.

5 Stars Risk: great value and fun!
Product was in on time and in excellent condition. Thank you for a great product and great service!

5 Stars Try this game!
If you have never played this game then you should! The more people that play the more fun it is. Our kids tried it and we had so much fun that we had to get this for our daughter for Christmas.

5 Stars Risk Reinvented – a better, bolder version of the classic game
One of my resolutions for 2009 is to relax and socialize more, and to that end I have revived my interest in board games. Risk is a classic pastime that I enjoyed during the Jurassic period; i.e. during my high school days in the 1980s. When I decided to get a new copy, I researched the various versions available and finally decided on this one.

I’m glad I did. This game captures all of the fun and challenge of the original, with some fantastic improvements:

1.) The board has been totally redesigned. Gone is the quaint, pre-modern war look of the original. The new design is heavy on black and red hues, reflecting its martial theme. The old Roman numeral pieces have been replaced with lightning strike-style markers. The result is an overall feel that says “this is war, in all it’s dark, bloody glory and horror.” Very cool.

2.) There are three modes of play, from a “basic training” version designed to span an hour or so to the extended global conquest theme long time players are familiar with. One of the downside of the classic version is that it could last for many wearisome hours. The new innovations eliminate that problem for those lacking the desire or stamina for a lengthy campaign.

3.) The role of luck has been reduced, and the game provides additional rewards for success on the battlefield. Features such as cities and capitols to defend bring the game more in line with the realities of real life warfare. Those who bemoaned the lack of strategy needed in the classic version will find these changes most welcome.

It’s true that the official rules don’t have a two player option. However, this is easily remedied by altering the division of forces during game setup.

So all in all I highly recommend the reinvented version of

Risk, both to avid gamers as well as those new to the hobby. With a great combination of realism, strategic reward and a dash of luck, you’ll find this game can be a great way to spend an evening or a rainy afternoon. Enjoy!

5 Stars Let the kid win
I bought this Risk to play with my son (he’s seven). It’s quickly become one of his favorite games. The secret: Let him win the first one. It’s easy with Risk, since the adults will tend to gang up on each other, so the little guys can sail through and pick up the pieces when they’re done. But it made him feel like a king. And adding dice may be simple, but it’s good math practice.

This version is a bit different from the one you might have played as a kid, but the changes are good. They add multiple objectives, which are easy to track but give the game more of a point. And most importantly, they make it so the game doesn’t last forever. The rules for the cards make much more sense than the old rules – you aren’t encouraged to wait forever to make one massive super-stack like in the old game. Personally, I still prefer the old pieces (Roman numerals rock!), but these are sturdy and well-crafted.

I only knock the Durability a star because all those little pieces are easy to lose, and the cards are on simple, cheap paper. But it’s still a great game.

Cranium

February 24th, 2010

Cranium

For 4 or more players

Cranium is an amazing party game that brings friends and family together through 14 fun and riotous activities. You won’t believe what your friends and family can do as your team hums, whistles, sketches, sculpts, acts, puzzles and even spells backwards to win.

Cranium’s outrageous activities are organized into four card decks: Creative Cat will have you sketching, sculpting with clay and even drawing with your eyes closed. Star Performer asks you to hum or whistle a tune, impersonate a celebrity or act out a clue. Word Worm requests you unscramble words, spell challenging ones, guess definitions, fill in the blanks and even spell backwards. Data Head stimulates your gray matter by testing your knowledge of trivia with provocative true/false queries and challenging multiple choice questions.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars cranium
I play this game with friends over 65 and it is fun because it challenges the mind and makes for a lot of laugher.

5 Stars Lots of fun for the entire family

This is a fantastic game for the entire family …… we loooooove it !!!

5 Stars Brain Power
We bought this as a gift for our recent college grad daughter… has provided several “forced family fun” hours for both us and other families….. great selection… will likely buy others in the CRANIUM series.

4 Stars good game, but a lot of luck involved
I really like the star performer and the drawing section, but the word and data sections are really a lot of luck, if you get a question you know that you win, but if you don’t there is not a lot you can do about it. Still a fun game to play. I would still like to try the new edition, maybe there have been some improvements.

5 Stars Great game for adults.
This is a great game for a group of adults. I say this because some of the questions are from things from the 80′ 90′ and some from before. We played a lot in christmas and had a blast although we noticed that some people who had played the game before new the answers to questions that were just to strange for anyone in the group to know. I found now that to avoid that cranium has some card packages you can buy to update your game!! Thats a great idea! Loving cranium just bought the WOW version of the game, as soon as we play it I will review it also.

Stratego

February 23rd, 2010

Stratego

Step onto the battlefield and put your strategy to the test in this classic game. Each player must use cunning and luck to outwit their opponents and win the game. It’s the same classic “capture the flag” gameplay, but with an all-new heroic fantasy theme. For 2 players.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Great Strategy Game
It will get you to think, its alot like chess, but gives you more set up options and more options. You cannot go wrong with stratego!

5 Stars Great Birthday gift for boys 7-10
My son has given this as his birthday gift of choice for all his friends. It’s great because, unlike traditional Stratego, it doesn’t take days to play. In addition the figures have special moves which provides added enjoyment. A great game for boys ages 7-10.

4 Stars Alright, Stratego!
I have never played any of the other editions of Stratego. I think the classic version features military players. This one has fantasy type players, like a Dragon, a magician, dwarf, etc. I bought it for my husband as I have been looking for good two person games for us to play together. This one hit the nail on the head. It’s a simplified chess game, which is great to play again. It’s involving and fun, and it makes you feel like your brain may actually be getting some exercise. Kids can play too, which is nice. You can learn to play quickly yet the game can get quite complex: as they say, a minute to learn, a lifetime to master. Highly recommended.

3 Stars Meh
I got this for my son for Christmas. Because this isn’t “traditional” Stratego, it has some alternate rules which are confusing. My son played it with me once and never asked to play again. I think it was partly confusing rules, and partly that kids just don’t want to play board games anymore.

As a parent, I had fond memories of playing Stratego as a kid, but those warm fuzzies didn’t return once I started playing.

4 Stars Fun strategy game
I grew up on the old game, so adjusting to the reverse numbering scheme took time. In this new version, high numbers are strong and low numbers are weak.

I like this version because it has more than one way to play. Normal mode or Special Power mode. However, I think I preferred the military theme rather than the fantasy theme.
