Get Ready to Show off Your Child’s Photos
It’s clear right out of the packaging that this camera was designed to stand up to tough play and rough handling. Bright pink rubber grips on each side make it easy for children to grasp the camera with both hands, and two-eye viewing make it easy to conceptualize a photo or a cool video. The camera even comes with two interchangeable faceplates, so your child can pick her favorite look.

Before your child starts taking photos, you’ll need to use a Phillips screwdriver to insert four “AA” batteries in the grips of the camera. While the first few photos are being taken, you may want to set up the VTech Photo Editor on your computer. An intuitive installation wizard makes this process quick and easy. You’ll need Windows 2000 SP3+/XP or newer to use this software. And don’t despair if you’re a Mac user. As long as you have Mac OS X 10.0 or above, you can still use the camera in mass storage mode.

Inspire Creative Development
Six buttons and a navigational joystick on the back of the camera let your child pick a mode and scroll through old photos. Between taking photos, shooting videos, and playing simple games on the 1.8-inch color screen, there’s lots to do.

A built-in flash makes it easier to get well-lit pictures, especially if the subject of the photo is indoors. The flash does, however, often fire if you are trying to take a close-up shot, resulting in very bright, blown-out pictures. Inexperienced photographers may need to be reminded that the camera is not designed to focus on objects that are less than 1.5-feet from the camera. For super-sized fun, you can also link the camera to your television using the included A/V cable and view creative work on the big screen.

With 16MB of internal memory and an SD card slot so that you can add capacity if you need it, this camera lets kids collect lots of images. The included USB cable lets you upload the images to your computer. The VTech photo editor lets you or your child add cool frames to photos, stamp funny hats on people, and distort images. You can even run fun animations that makes the photo look like it is rotating or underwater.

The photo editor interface is easy to use, with big round buttons for kids to click on and drag-and-drop stamps. More advanced artists may be disappointed that there aren’t more ways to creatively control output, but files from the Kidizoom can easily be edited in more advanced programs, too.

2 Stars picture quality is terrible
my daughter liked playing with it for awhile but got frustrated with the low picture quality. She is 4. The games on it also bored her after a few tries. She still wants to use my camera because at least the pictures come out. My 1 year old likes to push the buttons, but being 1, his attention isn’t held long.

5 Stars my 2 year old’s first camera
the easy use of this camera and its convenient toddler design made it easy for our 2 year old daughter Opal to join in on the fun. My husband and I are both photographers and so is our 6 year old, now our youngest can join in on the fun!

5 Stars GREAT kids camera, decent pic quality
my toddler LOVES it and its not that bad, if she doesnt move too quickly it takes pretty good pics, BEST indoors, took some photos at the beach and none came out but one, maybe too much sun, but the indoor pics have decent quality.

so far she has dropped it and it still works, the batteries havent been drained and she plays with it constantly,

* it has an automatic shut off which is GREAT!

so far so good!

5 Stars 7yr old loves it!!
My daughter has had a few digital cameras in the past year. The past couple that shes had are just crap digital camera, supposedly had the viewing screen, but you couldn’t make anything out. In my search to find her a good durable “kids” camera I came across the kidizoom. I think its been one of the best purchases of the year!! She absolutley loves it.

The viewing screen, you can actually make out the pictures, and it takes pretty decent pictures. She loves the Video Camera portion as well and the games. All in all we’re very happy with the camera and it seems to be very durable. Only downfall that I can see it that there is no way to charge the camera, it eats up batteries rather quickly. But that’s a minor thing.

5 Stars Great Kids Camera
I researched several different kids cameras, and came to a stop on the V-Tech KiddiZoom Camera. I was impressed by what I read about it and wanted to give it a try.

This camera is fantastic. I was worried just a little bit if my son would be able to use the camera, since it said for ages 3 and up. However, he uses it like a pro. The picture quality is fantastic and it is very durable. It has had a few drops around the house and still works like a charm.

I would highly recommend this product if you have a little one that loves using your expensive digital camera! They will love this one just as much.

5 Stars mommyof2
i got this camera for my daughter last X-mas and she loved it. This camera is very durable and great quality pictures comparing to another kids camera i bought for my son.

5 Stars so far so good
I bought this for my three year old daughter for Christmas. She loves it. She takes pictures of everything with it. The picture quality isn’t like Daddy’s digital camera but is fine for a three year old. It is very easy to use and I was surprised how quickly she picked up all the little background and border features. I was concerned about the battery life but it is now the end of March and we have only had to put new batteries in it once. My daughter and I are both happy with this toy.

3 Stars Important Facts for Everyone and for Mac Users
My 6-year old granddaughter, who searches for & plays educational games on PBS websites, loves this camera. She finds it easy to download, using MacOSX, her photos and movies (often noisy from internal mechanical movement). The ratings are hers. The ratings might have been much lower had I not taken the steps below.

VTech, in my opinion, should have foreseen the consequences of selling a camera without an SD card or clock. I’m adamant about archiving her movies (with her voice describing what she is photographing). Here two major but easily fixed problems appear, one undocumented.

1. Her most precious photos were those first taken, using the 16 MB of volatile memory. However, the four AA batteries don’t last long: had they run out, she would have only moments to replace them with a small Phillips screwdriver or lose them all, forever. This, in my experience, can be traumatic, driving even adults away from technology.

The solution is to buy and install in a battery compartment a tiny SD memory card. A 2GB one is very inexpensive and allows hordes of photos & movies. Apple & Amazon sell this one:

Crucial 2 GB SD Memory Card

After installing it, you may need to use the camera to move volatile photos & movies to the permanent SD card.

2. Let’s examine this statement: ‘And don’t despair if you’re a Mac user. As long as you have Mac OS X 10.0 or above, you can still use the camera in mass storage mode.’ What is mass storage mode? Your adult digital camera uses USB PTP, Picture Transfer Protocol, which stores dates, times, and exposure data in the EXIF portion of the JPEG file. However, VTech didn’t provide a simple quartz clock: no dates.

So, ‘native support’ of USB for a mass storage device means only that information all files have in common: a file. No date, no time, no EXIF. The date is the most important. One reviewer thought, as I, MacOSX would write a correct creation date if all photos are moved from the camera at the end of the day: it does not.

A Unix programmer would write a script using ‘touch’, but I chose the inexpensive shareware program ‘File Juicer’.

[...]

Dropping the disk image onto its icon creates folders with tiny photo icons on the pictures and dates on both photos & movies. These can be moved into place.

One must then manually erase photos & movies from the camera’s SD card, for the files are not recognized as photos by your Mac, and neither Image Capture nor iPhoto will automatically move them to your hard disk.

3. Traditionally, one connects a USB cable with the device (camera) turned off, then turns on the device. The device activates the driver and a white disk drive icon appears on the Desktop for the volatile memory (VTech 733) and for the SD card (VTech 744). Almost. First, however,

(a) I copied all photos & movies from the volatile to card memory using the camera. (They would otherwise be lost.)

(b) VTech’s driver does not speak very loudly to MacOSX’s native one: I must plug and unplug the USB cable at the computer while the camera is on, then wait for the icons to appear. this is a common kludge for badly-written drivers. (Once the card’s virtual disk mounted, I renamed it to my granddaughter’s first name.)

In conclusion, an extra $10 will be needed for an SD Card and, probably, $15 for Mac users interested in archiving their child’s first photos. Almost all of the actions I suggest here, I feel, are likely important to your child.

3 Stars Smiles and Tears!
This camera has been a hit at our house. My kids have LOVED using this camera. They can easily figure out how to use the buttons, make movies, and use the software that comes with it. It’s very durable. So lots of smiles. The tears come when you change the batteries and they LOSE all the photos and videos they have taken. Apparently when you change the batteries it erases the internal memory each time. So if your little one runs out of batteries before you can download their movies and photo’s then they lose them. This causes lots of tears and distress when their precious works of art are lost.

5 Stars Daughter loves it, had to get one for son
My daughter wanted a camera for Christmas, so after reviewing different brands decided this one was the way to go. Daughter was Very Happy on Christmas morning and uses it constantly. Finally had to get one for her little brother (camouflaged version) and he loves his too. Great item and hasn’t broken yet… and my kids can get rough! They like to play the games on camera and have taken them on many road trips and family events. Recommend for any young child.

3 Stars Could be better
I was very excited about this toy when we ordered it. The first one we got was DOA and would not work at all. It had been a birthday present so this was a hassle. When we finally got it, it was okay. I would still suggest the Vtech over the other brands.

3 Stars Good for fun, not high quality pics
Both 3 and 7 yr old boys like to play with this. Takes still pics well. My 3 yr old doesn’t hold still very long so all of his pics are a blur! Fun, but expensive for a play camera.

5 Stars Favorite gift ever
I got this camera for my daughter’s 4th birthday. She hasn’t put it down since! She says it is her favorite gift ever. She has figured it out pretty much on her own, including the gaming function. Some of her pictures are actually pretty good… I’m recommending it to everyone I know with young kids.

5 Stars Kid’s Camera
My 4 year old grandson loves this camera. He takes it everywhere. It is very durable & easy for him to use. Also plays games on it. Very good value.

1 Star waist of batteries, cant use rechargeable, total disappointment with my daughter
at first we really liked this camera, perfect for a three year old. but after the second day, we realized if she wanted to use it, we would have to replace the batteries every single day. seriously! on their website, they even say you cant use rechargeables. my daughter was so disappointed when i told her i cant buy batteries for her camera everyday. if we could do it all over, i would have gotten her a cheap, regular digital camera, with a rechargeable battery system.

dont buy this unless you like waisting money on batteries

2 Stars Great idea but the software is horrible.
The is a classic example of a great idea with horrible implementation. The software for this product is awful. It does not even work unless you use

an account on your Windows computer with Administrator privileges. Of course, I don’t want my daughter using such an account on our computer.

Secondly, the software itself has many issues. It often cannot find the camera even though it is connected. I have to reconnect it. Certain buttons

and prompts that the manual says should appear, do not appear. Examples of these are the “save” button for loading the pictures from the camera and the password prompt for returning from “Hide” mode.

This product has, however, inspired me to find higher quality products like it.

3 Stars video journal
this video journal so far works still unless my cousin broke it already but her and her friends had alot of fun making there own videos and stuff

1 Star Dont waste your money
I bought this for my 7 year old daughter who has been asking for a digital camera for awhile and was sorely disappointed. The camera is made of a cheap plastic and there is no review screen to see the pictures. It only holds a few pictures at a time and changing the default settings on the camera is the biggest pain. She did enjoy making the online journal with her own pictures, but frankly, it wasn’t anything we couldn’t do in word, and she was NOT impressed by the selections for the backgrounds or cards. Plus, due to the small amount of pictures the camera could hold, I was constantly uploading pictures and then deleting the camera so she could go take more.

5 Stars Very Fun
I bought this for my niece for her 9th birthday because hse has been wanting one. She really enjoys it. She really likes that she can take pictures and add them to her journal online. If you have a daughter that likes to keep a journal this would be a great product for her, because the fun thing is they can not only write about there day but also put a picture in there journal about there day.

1 Star Junk
It’s junk..don’t waste your money. I read the good reviews and bought this last year for my daughter and it was a total waste of money. It does not take even decent pictures. I knew it wouldn’t take good quality pictures but I expected more then the very low grainy pictures that it did take.
