Geomag 42

5 Stars The ONLY toy that my kids keep going back to!
I have been in the toy and game business for a few years. This allows me to bring home many different items for my kids to play with. Most things I bring home are played with just one time. Geomag, on the other hand, is a toy (construction set!) that both my boy (age 5) and girl (age
keep coming back to.
Geomag is made in Switzerland of exceptionally high-quality magnetic rods and steel balls. The magnets are so strong that you can build immense constructions that do not topple under their own weight. In fact, be warned that Geomag replicas (Geomag calls themselves “The Original”) are cheap and weak by comparison. Do yourself a favor, stay away from cheap imitations.
Also, Geomag is not just for kids. I find myself playing with it by myself – and as often as I can with the kids. I find it easy to pick up and play with, but building more advanced constructions – like big domes – can be a stimulating challenge!
Geomag is like Lego, only far more interesting.
I recommend Geomag for anyone that loves Lego or similar construction sets, geometry and creativity!!
5 Stars great office toy
I got this for a friend in my 10-person grad student office. His desk has become the most popular in the building, with several people coming by throughout the day to make new structures and see what these magnets can do. We had no idea we could create so many hanging, spinning, bizarre structures — in weeks we haven’t gotten tired of it. Great fun! Too bad we can’t get work done now.
5 Stars Kids play time
I have spent endless hours with my daughter (5 years old) in the construction of various shapes – and buildings. Many more hours of fun to look forward – I highly recomend this toy.
4 Stars Some of you are missing the point!
When I got this tiny box full of tiny pieces, I felt totally ripped off! I could build very little with the few pieces that came in the box. I had grand designs on building a scale model of the Eiffel Tower. So much for that.
However, after a few hours I was hooked on discovering how the magnetism was working, e.g. making a 3-sided spinner as wide as possible between 2 balls, then pulling the top and bottom to decrease the radius -> increase the spin speed due to inertia… seeing how many north poles can fit on a ball til one of them just has to ping off at great speed.
This toy encourages thinking beyond what you can see in front of you, to consider the invisible forces at work. This is a VERY valuable lesson which even many adults don’t seem to have a grip on.
Of course, you could build a tower with tens of thousands of pieces, but there are much cheaper ways of doing that (ok, maybe not as fun).
It’s all about the dynamics! Give it a chance!
3 Stars Not quite as fun as you’d expect!
This toy would be wonderful for kids, if only the manufacturer would include enough pieces! There are very few pieces included with this toy and it’s almost impossible to make anything unless you buy 3 or 4 boxes of this toy. My son got bored with this toy within 15 minutes. If this toy came with 3 or 4 times as many pieces, then maybe kids could enjoy it. Don’t be fooled by the size of the box — it’s full of plastic filler — not game pieces. Although the quality of the pieces is excellent, I was very disappointed with this toy, in general.
