5 Stars educational
My girls were so excited to open this at Christmas time. They were excited to recognize earth. As they put the puzzle together they were kneeling on the pieces trying to get the pieces where they need to go. The puzzle seems to be very strong where kneeling on them won’t hurt them. The colors on the puzzle are sharp. I was very impressed. I think this puzzle is a good way to get your kids to know what planets there are and what they look like.

First I bought this product for my nephew who is 9 and has an interest in space. He loved it and kept taking it apart and putting it back together,

now he is going to glue and hang it on his bedroom wall. So I ordered two more for my grandson who is five and my sister’s grandson who is 4.

They both love them. The four year old had a great rainy day putting it together and since he’s wild about the planets lately he was really pleased. His parents recognized the Melissa and Doug product name and knew the quality of their puzzles. I wish they would come out with one that is large with the stars and the constellations, all three are beginning to have an interest in the night sky. Great durable pieces. Grandma M

5 Stars Very satisfied
This is the fourth M&D jigsaw puzzle we have purchased for my son (he just turned 3). They are a challenge, but a managable one. He gets a great sense of accomplishment when he finishes, and we get to identify the objects in the picture-another learning opportunity. The pieces are big enough for him to handle easily and they typically divide in such a way that it isn’t too hard for him to find a match. Great opportunity for semi-guided learning through play. Very satisfied with the construction and quality of the puzzles as well.

5 Stars Another great Melissa & Doug toy
Our 3 1/2 year old daughter loves this puzzle. It’s a nice large size with large pieces that fit together easily. This adds to our daughter’s sense of accomplishment, and she enjoys the new challenge of a large round puzzle. Now she puts it together by herself and when she’s done, we then discuss the different cultures of the children holding hands. This really adds more value and more time spent using this verses other puzzles.

I bought this for my 3 year old grandson who loves puzzles. This one has a duel purpose, its a great puzzle and it teaches him the world. He has put it together many times since I gave it to him.

We bought this puzzle for our 6 year old son thinking he would need some assistance putting together such a big puzzle but it is designed in a way he can do it by himself. It gives him a good sense of accomplishment since it is such a large puzzle. The peices are very durable and he’s put it together many times. I highly recommend.

5 Stars Love this puzzle
My 3 year old daughter loves the Melissa and Doug floor puzzles and this one is no exception. She loves all the animals in this safari puzzle. We also have “farm friends”, “Dinosaurs” and “Under the Sea”. I would recommend them all. She can do “farm friends” and “dinosaurs” completely by herself, and can almost do “Under the sea”.

I think the puzzles have many lessons to teach them. I like that she has to learn patience and to work through a task to achieve her goal…it’s not instant gratification. Having said that she feels a great sense of accomplishment once it is completed.

I also feel these puzzles are very durable as we set them up on the floor and they get walked on all the time.

5 Stars not an M&D puzzle we have not liked yet
My 3 year old likes working on this puzzle with me. Sometimes his attention span is not quite long enough to finish it before he becomes distracted. The 48 pieces are well within his span of time, but the 100 is usually just outside of it. I recommend having both sizes on hand as the 48 pieces go too fast when he wants me to work them with him. The pieces easily resist both my 3 year old and my 1 year old crawling on them and chewing on them before I get them away from her.

I bought three of these puzzles for my three year old son. He absolutely loves them. The pieces are a great size and the picture has a lot going on. This was a great purchase.

I recieved this puzzle really fast. I have used this puzzle to help teach my students at school habitats because it is a perfect picture of a safari habitat. I even loaned it to another teacher in my school for a project they were doing and they loved it.

2 Stars Flawed
I usually really like Doug and Melissa products; oversall they are well made, colorful, and fun. This puzzle is the exception – neither my toddler nor I like it. All the pieces are the same shape, and only 1/2 of each animal is removable. In other words the cow piece is the same as the horse, sheep, etc. – the only difference is the color of the pieces. Having interchangable pieces just isn’t fun for my son – he gets no feeling of accomplishment when he gets the pieces and doesn’t understand why he can’t remove the entire animal as one piece.

Just awesome. These are better than they look. Quality is awesome. Must have for Pre-K children. Pieces even seem to be dog (Boxer) sturdy.

2 Stars Flawed, but cute
I was looking for wooden puzzles for my daughter when I stumbled across these. They looked colorful and fun. I read the reviews, and saw one that said the pieces were all the same shape. Looking at the picture of the puzzle, I didn’t understand that comment, the animals all looked like different shapes and sizes to me. Once we received the puzzles, I understood. The removable pieces are all little half-arch shaped pieces, and the majority of the animal is not removable. The only part that removes are the back legs, so to speak, of the animals, and the cabs on the vehicles.

They are still functional and maybe they could inspire some creativity by pairing the wrong legs with wrong animals, but it definitely wasn’t what I was looking for. For the good price, it isn’t worth returning as my daughter will play with it, but I wouldn’t reccommend them to a friend.

4 Stars okay puzzles
I’ve order a few puzzles from Melissa and Doug. These would be my least favorite, but aren’t bad puzzles. I thought the whole animal/car would be removed- But just the back end of them can be removed. Some are similar and are difficult to figure out which goes with which.

3 Stars Good quality but not great
This is a nice wood puzzle set that is well done for the price. Some of the pegs have broken off but I guess that is to be expected over time.

5 Stars Great Puzzles
I bought this for my 3 1/2 year old son. He had the other set of 4 puzzles and really liked them. I keep one of these sets out for him and the other goes in a travel toy bag. After completing the puzzles with help, he was able to figure them out on his own. Great price and quality.

4 Stars Durability and Fun
I have a 2.5 years old son who enjoys these puzzles. This is our second set of M&D Boxed Jigsaw. They are durable and fun. I first introduced them as they are completed. It took him less than 3 mins to complete for the first time and now he is even faster than I am The point is that he keeps going back to these puzzles. Now it is a race agains time. Choose the theme your child would be most interested.

4 Stars My son loves it
My son loves the Melissa and Doug puzzles in a box. He also loves construction vehicles so this is his favorite! with only 12 pieces per puzzle, he gets the sense of accomplishment quickly and moves on to the next puzzle. He’s now 3 y/o but he’s had another puzzles in a box since he was 2 and loved it then.

5 Stars small but fun
I got this puzzle-in-box set and the Vehicles In a Box set, and my son likes them both. The construction vehicle pictures really delight him. He can work harder puzzles than these, but he enjoys these for those times when he wants less thinking and quick results.

Each of the completed puzzles measures only about 5X7 inches.

If you buy more than one of these boxed sets, here’s a heads-up. Each set uses the same four shapes, stamped in red, on the backs of the four puzzles. This makes sorting harder when two sets get mixed together. We added a black mark to the backs of one set to make it different.

Also, the two sets that I bought were cut identically, so that the pieces are interchangeable between puzzle sets. For example, both puzzles stamped with circles on the backs have the same exact shaped pieces.
