4 Stars Good substitute
For Christmas we wanted to purchase a Nintendo Wii for our kids but they were sold out everywhere. We came across this item for only 20.00, it was nearly 80.00 in Toys R Us, and I’m glad we bought it. For 20.00 it couldn’t be beat. It gave us a preview of what the real Wii would be like and it is a lot of fun. It is very similar to Wii Sports and for the people who don’t want to spend the 250.00 to buy the Wii this would definitely work. It’s a great toy but once the Wii arrived it hasn’t been touched.

4 Stars Don’t listen to the haters
For the money, this is a GREAT toy. We have had no problems getting the controller to synch and can’t figure out why anybody else does. It is limited to the 5 games, but my 6 year old loves the game and plays it every day. The parents play it too. It may not be all that WII is, but it’s a heck of a lot cheaper and when my boys grow out of it, I won’t feel bad about the investment I made. I say, if you are thinking about buying one, buy one!

5 Stars cheaper than the WII but just as good
I got this for my Grandchildren 6 and 3 and they love it. It teaches them how to bat, bowl, throw a football and golf. They do not know it is not the WII but are thrilled with it. This is definatly a great pick.

5 Stars Great Alternative to Wii
Our family have loved this game system. The kids really get into all the sports and it’s better then having them sit and play video games all day. This gets them up and moving. My son has top score on the Football. My husband and I compete on the bowling, it’s fun for us too. My 3yr old can even play it and her fav is the bowling. She manages to get Turkeys! Overall, a good system, especially if you can’t afford nor want to break your bank on a Wii and it’s expensive games. Hoping Jakks comes out w/ even more,as the system itself, when bought on sale, is more affordable than buying one Wii game. I think it depends on how often you play.

5 Stars Pleased with Purchase
This unit is a pretty good deal.

The only issue we have is that it only comes with a single controller. (and you have to figure out how to “sinc” it the first time you use it) The contol box is small enough to fit in any cramped space, works out great for kids rooms and spare game tv. Lots of fun with easy to play games.

LeapFrog Learn and Groove Musical Table

February 10th, 2010

LeapFrog Learn and Groove Musical Table

It’s a learning fiesta for your little one. This interactive, bilingual activity table engages and entertains your baby for hours. There are songs, melodies, twinkling lights and real instrument sounds, plus lots of things to spin, roll, slide, open and close. The table plays over 40 songs and melodies so your baby stays entertained while exploring. When babies turn the center page, the activity table switches modes and transforms musical discoveries into learning activities where each instrument plays a learning song. The Learn and Groove Musical Table also helps your child develop the motor skills needed for learning to stand. Contoured grips make “pulling up” a piece of cake. As babies learn to stand, their little hands can stay busy with reaching, grabbing and pulling. Measures 23″ x 5.5″ x 15.5″. Requires 3 “AA” batteries (not included).

3 Stars The legs are not detachable
Don’t be fooled! You can use this on the floor or up on its legs. But once you put the legs on they do not come off. I contacted LeapFrog and they said they are modifying the packaging to indicate this. I had planned to return it but with the legs on it would require a large box and was just more of a hassle than I bargained for. So I kept it but was sorely disappointed. Had I known this I would have bought something else, or at least waited until my grandbaby was able to stand before I put the legs on. Either way, I can’t remove them. A search of the net resulted in some directions on how to remove the legs but I felt like I was going to break them.

5 Stars It gets used everyday
This table has less annoying music than many, and my 11 month old daughter goes over to it at least once an hour and pushes buttons to make music. Two and 3 year old children seem fascinated with this also, and the ability to take the legs off and use a a toy for little crawlers make me glad that in a our low-toy household, we have this toy. We bought it used and find it in great shape.

3 Stars BEWARE of unstable legs
This table is fun, but buyer beware regarding the legs on this toy! First, many of the pics of this item are NOT of this item! The table with the wide feet and blue lights around the center is an older item which is no longer made (I tried the older version at a friend’s house and loved it). The wide feet provided a wonderfully stable base for this toy. However, the new version (with red lights) has unstable legs which are prone to tipping on your child. The legs are also NOT detachable on all units. I was told by Leap Frog that the only way to know whether they are detachable is to unbox the toy and look on the bottom of the item for a “press here” indicator where the legs attach. Seriously?? I’m not sure of a store that is going to allow me to open all the items to find the one with detachable legs! That said, I have the one with the NON-detachable legs and mistakenly attached them BEFORE my child was able to stand independently. Any attempts to use this toy to pull to stand result in this toy tipping onto my child. UGH! So, this toy requires VERY close supervision (as in my holding onto my child while he plays with it in order to avoid him pulling it over onto himself). Other than that, the noises are a bit annoying with a very jazzy lady belting out sounds and songs, so I typically leave it in the OFF position. Why oh why can’t toy makers make SIMPLE cause and effect toys with short bursts of sounds rather than these long, annoying, never-ending songs and sounds? Oh, how I miss the simpler times!

5 Stars My son loves it
My son loves this toy. He has had it for over a year now. I am really surprised how long the batteries last in this unit. A nice feature is that the legs are removable. This allows the music table to be placed on the floor or a tabletop, or to easily be stored away for future use.

3 Stars She never plays with it
It seems like a great toy, and it is very durable, but my daughter wants nothing to do with it. It has just sat in the play room since she was 1 year old.

4 Stars Fun for all ages :-)
We got this as a Christmas present for our daughter (when she was 4 months old). We set it up on her high chair to keep her entertained while we made her food. It took her a week or so to figure out that she has to spin the middle part and now she loves this being a part of her routine. She only plays with it for a couple of minutes while the food is being warmed/prepared so it doesn’t reach the annoying level – but I can see how it could. I do have to say that I’ve never heard an x-ray fish, but I don’t think it’s sound is bzzzz. Other than that, I think this is a great toy to teach even younger kids dexterity and older kids about the alphabet and different animals (regardless or how silly the sounds may be). My daughter actually gets a kick out of it when I try to imitate the crazy sounds!

5 Stars Love it!
This is a very sturdy and educational toy. My one yr old would repeatedly drop it but it’s still in great shape. I love the feel of the product overall…it feels firm not flimsy. This toy automatically turns itself off when not in use and you have two different volume controls. My 4 yr old also tries to take it and play with it :) . The music is fun and engaging….my 1 yr old dances to it:) too cute… All in all I love this…I bought for my 1 yr old for her birthday.

5 Stars My 8 month old daughter loved it at 6 months and still loves it at one year!
We also bought this for a friend’s first birthday and she loves it. It has at least three settings, one for just abc’s, another for the animals, and the third for both, including singing the abc song.

4 Stars Our daughter likes this a lot
Our 10 month old loves to spin it to keep sounds or music going :)

I appreciate that the volume isn’t too loud in the low setting (a real problem in too many toys)… the variety is good: the music, animal sounds and letter settings are all different. Note that the animal sounds are a bit exxagerated… they had to find an animal with “X”, so they say “X-Ray Fish” (not even sure that’s a real fish!) and of course the sound is made up.

A good buy, since “spinning” is a pretty interesting concept to have a baby figure out.

5 Stars Fantastic choice!
I bought this toy for my 15 month old son and he loves it! It’s easy to use and very durable considering a little boy is putting it to the test.He loves the music although it can be a little repetitive for the parents, but I can overlook that when I see how much fun he is having.

5 Stars Great music for parents and kids
This could very easily have become an annoying toy very quickly. But since the songs that it plays are so fun for parents, I think it’s fantastic. It’s been a great way for my son to learn to pluck the guitar strings, and pull the whammy bar along with the music. My son likes it so much he often picks it as the 1 toy he can take in the car with us. One additional benefit – it has an on/off switch.

4 Stars It’s a hit with all the kids
I bought this for my two year old son who is very much into music right now. We pop in a U2 concert tape and he jumps around and strums along to the songs. As others have said, the little tunes are real songs. The strings can be strung. And the whammy bar is fun too.

My only wish is that it came with a strap. We had to make one out of a nylon strap using the holes in the back used for packing, which works fine. Maybe it’s a safety issue having a strap but other toy guitars have them.

Keep in mind it’s small, but I’ve found that kids from 2 up to 4 years old really enjoy this guitar.

4 Stars Fun songs
My son got this for his 2nd birthday and I think the adults have had as much fun with it as he has. The songs are fun. Reviewed and looked at lots of other guitar toys and this one is so much better than the others. Recommend for little ones.

5 Stars Little Tykes guitar
My son absolutely loves this guitar. He loves to dance, and the guitar has 5 buttons he can press to get a song to play. There are a few strings, so he can pretend to play along with the song. There are several volume settings along with an off switch. It’s size and weight make it easy for him to carry around and play. He can really pretend he’s a rock star with this guitar.

This is definately a toy guitar, though, and not an actual guitar. Music stores do sell small guitars, so I would check there if your child wants a real guitar. My son has one and he plays with both daily.

4 Stars Awesome music and fun guitar
My son loves this guitar and plays with all the time. The songs on the guitar are pretty cool. It is exactly the right size for a 2-3 year old kid and is slick looking

Fisher Price Little Superstar Sing Along Stage

January 26th, 2010

Fisher Price Little Superstar Sing Along Stage

Give your little one an exciting introduction to music with the Little Superstar Sing-Along Stage from Fisher Price. Created for children ages six months and up, the Sing-Along Stage offers plenty of interactive musical features designed to grow with your child. The toy features “Instruments” that activate sounds when their buttons are pressed, and you and your child can sing along with and dance to five fun songs.

What We Think

Fun Factor:

Durability:

(what this means)

The Good: Toy offers many stages of learning fun, making it a fun, educational, and economical choice

The Bad: Assembly is made difficult by irregularly sized screw holes

In a Nutshell: Interactive, musical toy gives your child a fun introduction to making music

At a Glance

Ages: 6 month and up
Requires: 3 AA batteries (included); Philips screwdriver for assembly and for installing fresh batteries

Give your little one an exciting introduction to music with the Little Superstar Sing-Along Stage.

Features include “Instruments” that activate sounds when their buttons are pressed and five fun songs.

An Exciting Experience for Your Little Performer
The Little Superstar Sing-Along Stage features a large picture mirror, framed by exciting blinking lights at the top and an “audience” of smiling, cartoon babies at the bottom. Musical instruments with happy faces sit below: a guitar, a keyboard, a drum, and a trumpet. Each instrument has moving parts that activate sounds. The toy comes with a “magic” microphone, which is really a rattle. Shake it, and the sound of the rattle will activate songs and other fun sounds. The lights blink as the music plays, making a spectacular show for your little one to enjoy.

Sing Songs or “Compose” You Own
The toy includes two modes, which are easily selected by sliding a button at the top of the toy. The “sing-along” mode plays five different fun songs, which are activated by shaking the magic microphone or pressing any of the buttons on the musical instruments. Younger babies will enjoy listening to the music and watching the lights blink. They’ll also love hearing you sing along with the songs. (We were happy to find that the toy comes with lyric cards.) As your child gets older, she can learn to sing along with you, too.

Select the “build-a-song” mode for your child to experiment with sounds herself. When she shakes the “magic microphone,” a voice singing a “scat” will start. When your child plays with any of the musical instruments, she will hear that instrument play. It will continue to play a “solo” until she presses the buttons on any of the other instruments. Their sounds will then be added to the instrumental piece. For example, press the drum, and a back beat will be added. In all, the toy has three different, jazzy “add-on” instrumental pieces — even our adult toy testers enjoyed these catchy, authentic-sounding tunes. The toy also says several fun phrases, as well as the sound of cheering and applause, encouraging children to dance or sing along.

Musical Toy Grows with Your Child
While we love all of the musical features of this toy, we especially like that the Sing-Along Stage is designed to grow with your child, which means that your child will get a lot of use out of it while making new discoveries as they get older. The toy stands at the perfect height for six-month-old babies to play with while sitting. They will enjoy looking at themselves in the large picture window, watching the blinking lights, and experimenting with the cause and effect features of the buttons. Our two-year-old toy tester also enjoyed this toy — she loved dancing and singing along with the songs.

The toy requires just a little bit of adult assembly, which is where we encountered our only problem: the legs need to be screwed on to the toy to allow it to stand, but the holes for the included screws were not sized properly. This made it difficult for us to manually tighten the screws satisfactorily. However, the toy was still able to stand sturdily for safe play

. The Sing-Along Stage requires 3 AA batteries, which are included.

What’s in the Box
Sing-Along Stage, “magical” microphone, three AA batteries.

5 Stars A hit for both Grandchildren!
I bought this item for my Grandaughter as a first birthday gift. Not only does SHE love it, but her 3-year-old brother does as well. In fact, they started fighting over it about five minutes after it was put together! It’s a fun and durable toy.

5 Stars Worth every penny!
This toy was bought for my Granddaughter when she was 6 months old. She wasn’t sitting up for a long period of time so we ignored the legs and just leaned the mirror against the side of the crib. The toy was an instant favorite! Once she was able to sit up we attached the legs and now she’s loving the music and lights. Her face just lights up when ever she presses the buttons! This toy is a must have! The songs are cute and don’t get old ((unlike some other toys we have)) and you can change the instrument that’s playing the song. I.E. if the wiggle song is playing, you can press the drum and the drum is playing the tune, the piano and then the piano is playing the song, so on and so forth. If you have the chance, purchase this toy!!!

4 Stars Great Toy For Independent Sitters
My 9 month old daughter loves this toy. She talks to herself in the mirror and loves the microphone and all of the buttons and music. It is very upbeat and one of the better toys I have purchased for her.

Their are 2 downsides. One is that if the baby pulls on it it can tip over. The second is that the music plays continually and does not go off on it’s own when it is not in use.

Other then that I would never trade this toy in. She adores it.

5 Stars One of the best baby toys out there!!
I would have never guessed this toy would be such a hit with my baby! (and my 2 year old likes it, too.) We’ve had it since she was about 6 months old. She is now almost a year and still spends time playing with it several times a day, every day (and she has lots of things to choose from!). Just today, she was sitting in front of it, looking at herself in the mirror and laughing. She can pull herself to standing on it without it tipping over. The songs and music are catchy and fun and she just loves to bang on the piano keys (which are connected as one big piece), the drum, and spin the ball on the guitar. The older kids sometimes play with the microphone, but other than that, it doesn’t get used much (if at all) by baby. I love that it has an on/off switch and volume control. If I could add one thing to it, it would be a molded plastic little pouch or pocket on the back to store the song cards in. You don’t really need them, but it would be nice if they had a “home”. Also, the mirror isn’t that great of quality. The kids don’t seem to mind, but I would love it all the more if it had a better quality mirror. All in all, though, this toy is totally worth having! I’m so glad we purchased it for our little one!

5 Stars My son LOVES it! Worth every penny
We have had this since my son was 4 mo old, and he LOVES this toy. At 4 mo old I would put him in his bumbo and set this in front of him and he would have the best time and sit and smile at it. He is now 7 mo old and although i can’t just sit him in the Bumbo anymore and expect him to stay, he will still sit in his Bumbo supervised and plays with this toy, he still loves it! One of the best investments for him to date! Highly recommend it!
