5 Stars 50th Gold Anniversary Barbie at “Robert’s Best!”
50th Anniversary Barbie Glamour Doll50th Anniversary Barbie Glamour African American Doll

I did not expect the “50 dollar” 50th Anniversary Barbie Doll to be such a stunner and of such high quality! Robert Best has done it again, with beautiful faces, gorgeous gowns, glittering accessories–right down to Barbie’s “50th” Bracelet and Drop-Dead Gorgeous earring in faux diamonds. Her Hair, her make up, her GOWN–I love it all. It is always something of a gamble to choose from a photo. No gamble here. And, Mattel’s newer “see-through” packaging makes it so those of us who are “NRFB’ers” (Never Remove From Box) just _tickled_! You can see just about every part of this lovely Golden Lady without touching any lids, tapes or seals. Well done Mattel and Mr. Best. 5 Stars and Thumbs Up! CAUTION: small parts, not for small children if deboxed! She’s not an expensive, Silkstone or High-end collectible, but definitely belongs on MY Collectible Barbie Shelf. Really for the Late Teens to Adult Collector. Written by a Serious Barbie Collector….

5 Stars Collector Barbie Doll
I bought this Barbie for my grown daughter who collects Barbies. She is very particular about the boxes as she never removes the doll from them, but only displays them and the box and doll arrived in perfect condition.

5 Stars 50th Anniversary Barbie Glamour Doll
This doll sold out fast and Amazon was the only place that I could obtain,

also at a reasonable price. It was delivered in perfect condition, including the plastic display box, which most other places will not guarantee. I continue to shop at Amazon as it has been a pleasant experience each and every time.

5 Stars Collector Item
I purchased this doll for my wife’s collection. She loves it and I had to immediately had to buy 2 additional dolls for my granddaughters. The price was less than I could find it elsewhere, besides I did not have to pay tax or shipping. I am not able to rate it as listed above because it is a collector item.

5 Stars lovely Barbie reproduction
Issued to celebrate Barbie’s 50th anniversary, this is a reproduction of the 1962 brunette ‘bubblecut’ doll, with a bonus era-appropriate fashion also included in the package.

Dressed in her standard jersey-cut red swimsuit, the brunette bubblecut doll also wears pearl stud earrings and red open-toed mules. The bubblecut hairstyle was introduced in 1962, proving to be very popular at the time–partially inspired by the look and glamour of Jackie Kennedy. Collectors of vintage Barbie also particularly love the bubblecut dolls; the rare “sidepart bubblecut” being a highly sought-after variation which was only produced for a short time. In addition, a spectacular “bubble-on-bubble” hairstyle was created as one of the wigs for the Fashion Queen Barbie doll.

My only quibble with this reissue lies in the quality of the hair. Original bubblecuts (and earlier repros like “Silken Flame” and “Career Girl”) were much more realistic. The hair on this current repro is far too bouffant; Barbie looks like she’s overdosed on hairspray!

Also included in this package is a reproduction of “Enchanted Evening”, one of Barbie’s most desirable and popular gowns of the era. A delicate, strapless gown made of frosted pink satin, with a white faux fur stole. Long white gloves, triple-strand pearl necklace, pearl stud earrings and sparkly open-toed pumps complete this elegant gown.

This is a classic doll reproduction; perfect for the Barbie collector in your family.

5 Stars Beautiful Reproduction!
The previous reviewer is spot on in the quibbles, this is not a perfect reproduction of the Bubble Cut Barbie dolls from 1963-On. My Mother had this doll and I played with it with my action figures when we visited the Grandparents, so I did a comparison side by side.

The hair and face are the biggest differences. The Face molds for all the repro’s are just not as rounded as the original. They have an entirely different look to them. The painted face looks beautiful, and I would say they have captured the “essence” of the original well. The hair is nothing like the original, and I can see it losing its shape over time, unlike the originals.

Most importantly, it looks great displaying vintage fashions. The included Enchanted Evening looks breathtaking when displayed on your new doll, and all of the original vintage fashions get a little touch of glamor with a brand new repro Bubble cut in them. This is a lovely display doll to de-box and put up on the mantel!

I would highly recommend this for collector’s looking for a doll to display vintage fashions. I don’t think it will have much value on the secondary market (These are Pink label and being mass produced.) but it’s perfect to display.

2 Stars Mattel Laccking in Product Presentation Holes in Gown

Why does Mattel insist on poking a hole through every fine fabric costume on collectible dolls with a needle and thread or plastic t-tie?

After the millions of dolls they have sold, could their staff devise a way to keep the doll in the box without having to sew the dress to the box?

Even if the collector wishes to display the doll outside the box, they must try to carefully remove the thread – which still leaves the hole poked through the fabric in front of gown.

All in all, the set is a desirable one due to the resemblance to the earlier doll, but really, why would someone pay this much money for a doll with a gown with holes punched through the fabric?

Madame Alexander – a premier doll manufacturer for years – has for years securely fastened their dolls with a simple ribbon or rigid plastic forms. Why can’t Mattel do the same?

Mattel is lacking in Quality Control on this issue, and the same with the Elvis and Priscilla Presley Giftset. Three holes are punched through the fabric of Priscilla’s dress!

2 Stars The Box’s Corners Were In Poor Condition
As a Barbie Collector, I want the box to be in perfect condition but it was not. I was disappointed. Another Barbie I ordered was not like that at all, she was perfect. So, I guess this time was just a fluke.

5 Stars Vintage 1962 repro. Barbie
Upon receiving this particular doll, it brought back many fond memories. I am a collector but some Barbie’s are more fun to have than others. This one is one of my new favorites.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars One of Mattel’s most beautiful dolls ever. A bargain at three times the price.
Have you noticed how much this doll resembles Miss California contestant, Carrie Prejean, in the 2009 Miss USA Beauty Pageant? The resemnlance is astonishing. It could be a Carrie Prejean Doll.

5 Stars Collectors review
The doll itself is beautiful. I collect Barbies. The only issue I had with Amazon, is that the box itself is damaged. This doll will not be taken out of the box. But the lower right corner of the display box was crushed in. Didn’t hurt the doll, but the box itself doesn’t look good.

5 Stars Collector Barbie Doll
I bought this Barbie for my grown daughter who collects Barbies. She is very particular about the boxes as she never removes the doll from them, but only displays them and the box and doll arrived in perfect condition.

5 Stars A Barbie doll collector
The doll arrived in perfect (collectable) condition. Not one scratch or defect on the plastic doll display box. I have 315 dolls in my collection and would not hesitate to buy from this source again.

5 Stars 50th Anniversary Barbie
This doll will not come out of the box. It is for display enjoyment only. I collect designer barbies and she is gorgeous!!!

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars sensational repro of a classic Barbie doll!
Issued to celebrate Barbie’s 50th anniversary is this splendid reproduction of the 1977 “Superstar” Barbie doll. Historically, the genesis of the doll was very important…

By 1977, the Mattel company was going through some severe financial reverses. Amidst a storm of controversy, Elliott and Ruth Handler had handed over their reigns to a group of young businessmen who were totally green in their marketing of the Barbie brand. Dolls started to be manufactured very cheaply with zero personality. The uprising of the Feminist Movement had also seriously impacted Barbie’s reputation as well; the groups routinely picketed toyfair conventions and burned dolls on bonfires in order to demonstrate their point that Barbie was an outdated, inaccurate symbol of women.

When “Superstar” Barbie came along in 1977, it was the perfect time. For the first time since 1967, the Mattel designers completely re-vamped Barbie’s face mould, giving her a fresh new Farrah Fawcett look (”Charlie’s Angels” was a hit on TV during this period); and overhauled her wardrobe to include dazzling new disco-inspired fashions.

This reproduction brings back “Superstar” Barbie dressed in her trademark hot pink satin dress with matching boa and strappy shoes. Also included is another fashion from the inaugural Superstar fashion line (which is known as “Dramatic Black” among collectors). Everything about this repro is totally authentic; this is a great way to own a minty-mint Superstar but without the hefty pricetag!

A fantastic gift for the Barbie collector in your family.

5 Stars *GORGEOUS* Reproduction of 1977s Super *STAR* Barbie!
The SUPERSTAR BARBIE DOLL 1977 reproduction from Mattel’s “My Favorite Barbie” line is fantastic!

Superstar Barbie is exactly as I remembered it. She comes in her hot pink full-length disco dress and the hot pink stole. She also has her rhinestone necklace, earrings and ring on her right hand and she’s wearing her hot pink sling back pumps with ankle strap. There’s also a tag on the doll’s left arm that reads “Genuine Barbie By Mattel.”

Barbie’s face is similar to the Pop Culture Collector Edition: Malibu Barbie (also available in a copy), but a little more glamorous. Her hair is platinum blond–I think that the original had streaked hair–and parted on the left side, flowing down into a flip.

The doll also comes with an additional black two-strap sparkly dress and a black stole. I’m not sure if there’s an extra set of black pumps in the box, because I’m not opening it up, but they aren’t visible through the box. But the picture on this page shows the black pumps, so I guess they’re there.

Two cards, one with an illustration of three Superstar Barbie Fashions and the other features a photograph of “Superstar Barbie” and “Superstar Ken” together, is included along with a reproduction of the small catalog of Barbie’s “World of Fashion” booklet. A doll stand and a certificate of authenticity is also in the box.

The box itself is very sturdy, measuring about 11.75″ by 13″, and looks like it opens up like a shoe box with the cellophane window on top (to see and display the doll). There’s a gold ribbon tied into a bow that keeps the shoe box together and also holds a tag that reads “Barbie 50th Anniversary.”

This doll will surely bring back cherished memories of any girl or boy who had this doll in 1976-77. If you had one back then (and it was your favorite doll) and are debating whether or not this doll is worth purchasing, believe me it is. When I look at it, I get that same feeling that I had as a child on Christmas day!

I wish they would do a reissue of the “Fashion Photo P.J.” doll. That’s one that I wanted, but never got. :-(

4 Stars Beautiful, but not 100% accurate reproduction
First off, this is a fantastic doll, and only a stickler for accuracy would ever have any quibbles about the doll. The doll is visually a very good reproduction of the vintage doll. Very lovely, and worth the price.

My only complaints are based on de-boxing the doll and inspecting it more thoroughly. The doll’s waist doesn’t seem to be able to twist, though that might just be a flaw of my doll. Also, the body mold features the lower torso and legs of much later 1990s dolls, with the “B” logo engraved on the lower torso to simulate underwear, and the blunted toes of 1985 and later dolls. The original SuperStar Barbie doll had a plain lower torso and pointed toes. The SuperStar shoes are an excellent reproduction, and the fashion is lovely, but the boa is actually two pieces. I easily stitched it together for display, but it should have been manufactured as one piece. It also should be noted that the Dramatic Black extra fashion is not an ankle-length dress, it only reaches to halfway between the knees and ankles. The black SuperStar shoes are included in the set, and they are very good reproduction shoes. The jewelry also is very well made.

Mattel should sell the jewelry and shoes separately so that vintage dolls can be outfitted with nice repro accessories.

5 Stars Superstar Barbie in all her Glory!!
My sister and me got the Superstar Barbie for Christmas 1977 and she was our favorite Barbie of the 70’s along with Malibu. I still remember the excitement of seeing her glamorous outfit and beautiful face. She was the first Barbie to have a softer friendly wide smile. Her face mold became the new look for Barbie well into the 90’s.Superstar is said to have been modeled after 70’s actress & icon Farrah Fawcett, she is a time capsule of late 70’s fashion and culture. Mattel did a wonderful job in this reproduction in loving detail. I think her hair may be slightly more blond then the original. She come with her diamond ring, earrings, and necklace, plus another dress! The box has beautiful art work of Superstar along with a few collector cards and fun facts about her and her handsome boyfriend Superstar Ken. One card has a picture of Superstars cool 77 pink corvette, I always wanted! The box could be displayed as is and has a easy lift off top so you can enjoy looking at the photo booklet etc, without taking the doll out.If you loved Superstar as a kid you won’t be disappointed. Heck , I still want to be Superstar!!
