History Behind Radio Controlled Gadgets
Radio controlled gadgets are considered to be one of the oldest technologies that are still being used today with more creative uses than ever. If you played with these radio controlled gadgets when you were little, you probably would have viewed them as special toys that are much more fun to play with than standard toys. But if you know the history behind these radio controlled devices, you’ll be amazed to know how useful they can be and how you can make use of this technology in the future.
Radio controlled gadgets were first used for historical warfare purposes. After Nikola Tesla first demonstrated a remote control boat back in 1893, radio control technology was further developed for historical warfare. During the Second World War, the same technology that was used in controlling your modern radio controlled toys were used in controlling bombs to hit their designated targets. The controls then were pretty simple with many of them having on and off settings for remote activation.
Remote controlled gadgetry moved to commercial use during the 1960s, when transistors were commonly used to develop these devices. Even so, remote controlled gadgets were still used by those who were so-called “geeks,” and truly understood the technology. Transistors were required so that batteries were not as central to power. They’ve since been even further developed so that there is not much power required at all for today’s radio controlled gadgetry. And in the 1960s, radio controlled cars were beginning to be manufactured and were used in competitive races.
In the 1970s, US and Japanese manufacturers began to get in on the industry of radio controlled cars. Some of these manufacturers made the parts, while others developed radio control devices from the drawing board to completion. Some of the earliest models are collectors’ items today, and can go for as much as $3000. Because they’re so popular, one of the manufacturers has re-released some of the early models so collectors can buy them.
As with other “early” technology, the first products of this type were often bulky and ungainly, so that they were impractical to use even for people who were interested in them. However, in the 1990s, the components used to make these products significantly shrank in size, until they became widely available and much more practical to use. This is where the remote-controlled toys of today first began to be seen more commonly. Many remote-controlled “vehicles,” like cars and boats, were miniaturized so that they could be manufactured easily and handled easily by those who ultimately purchased them.
While the technology hasn’t been changed all that much, more focus has been made towards the design of the ones that can be controlled. Some of the models nowadays represent miniaturized replicas of real vehicles that perform in a similar fashion. Tesla’s idea for a remote control boat was also put to use with many radio controlled boats being made today. There are even some helicopters that are radio controlled that fly the same way the real helicopters fly.
The frequency quality of the signal that controls these radio control devices is also much more responsive so that enjoyment is greatly increased. Enthusiasts are certainly excited about these newest of radio controlled gadgets, because they perform so much better than previous devices did. Indeed, remote controlled gadgetry has become very sophisticated, and is used in more ways now than at any time previously in history.
